Harley's Mighty SCX 1.9 Wraith

Recently Mighty1 posted a thread rebuilding his 1.9 Wraith based truck, but instead of the typical way of putting SCX axles under a Wraith chassis he decided to adapt a SCX chassis to the cage. So simple! His thread can be found here --> CLICK!

So last night while working in the shop I grabbed some pieces from the parts piles and started to throw something together.

Here is an intro video to the project.

Re: Harley's Mighty SCX 1.9 Wraith

The basis of this build is easy of building and easy access. Steve integrated a flip top, making everything under the chassis super easy to access.

For my version I made an incredibly simple bracket to mount the cage off of. A piece of 16 gauge steel with two little bends and 4 holes. 10 minutes worth of work.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...258a761cdd4eca

It mounts to the rear most hole of the chassis.

The cage lays down on the chassis at a nice height.

But the best part is that it flips right up.

Re: Harley's Mighty SCX 1.9 Wraith

Now there was a little work done to make sure that everything cleared the SCX shock hoops. I wanted to use these hoops instead of the integrated Wraith hoops so that I could maintain the flip top. It required a little dremel work on the chassis was all.

The outer frame rails in the rear were removed. Here you can see the rough cuts.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...582503164f70ef

The front frame rails and shock mounts were also removed.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...89cbbc5e036d95

The rear shock mount piece was removed, and then I cut off the actual shock mount pieces so I could reinstall the cross piece for extra rigidity in the chassis.

Lastly, since the lower section of the chassis is only used to mount the Wraith skid plate, it was removed to increase clearance.

For the body, at this time I am planning to use this Proline JK Wraith body. It has a nice proportional look and fits well.

The wheelbase when matching to the wheel arches sits about 11.75" total.

SORRCA

Another part of this build is that now that it uses frame rails, it is easy to say that it is class 2 legal.

So from here on out, I will make sure to base my decisions on making sure I keep it legal and start raising the scale points of the truck.

Interesting build. Looks like fun. Especially if you can build it with mostly over the counter parts.

I'll be watching for sure. I've had this in mind since before the "Mighty Tack"... but I haven't had time in my weird ass 60+hr work weeks as of late. I'll follow your build closely.

I got the truck to a roller tonight, using only links I had laying around the shop. Regular G6 links for the uppers, and long and short Traxxas pushrods for the lowers to dial in the wheelbase a little closer.

I used stock SCX shocks for the time being. I'm hoping to get my final ride height down to more of a 50/50 setup however. Right now it's taller than I'd like. Granted once I get all the junk in the truck I'm sure it will drop a little.

Love the 1.9 Wraith and I agree, Mighty1's SCX frame is a cool idea.

Looking forward to the awesome that this is destined for...."thumbsup"

Cool build... nice work
I like the combo chassis design.
And prefer the look of the 1.9 tires.

tho' your axle width looks too wide for my liking.
But then... I'm a scale addict
and even think my scx-10 axles are to wide
for true to scale proportions.

those the Wraith axles ?

look forward to your completion...
and hopefully you'll post a video of it rolling "thumbsup"

Probably a dumb question but I haven't seen it covered yet. What holds the wraith cage down in the front? Anything or is the hinge setup tight enough you don't have to worry about it?

No I just hadn't got to it until last night. Again with the theme of keeping it simple, I used the standard SCX body mounts. Easy and done. Moving on!

These are SCX10 axles, and for a rig like this it is more than in proportion. A trail rig build to something along this level would easily have this type of width. Not all full size rigs tuck the tires inside the wheel wells :ror:

This is with 475 or 600 front hubs, 225 rear hubs. All f which will get adjusted when the new wheels and tires come in.

I put some Gladiators on order, looking forward to trying some. I really like the look.
