Default Diff gears.

For everyone running the stock plastic axles. Do you notice binding with the stock gears? Or a rough section?? How does one go about fixing this?

It is only the front diff that makes this noise.
I have also noticed that my transmission/drivetrain is quite loud... How do you fix this?
I've never had noise or binding issues like this on my 4 other RCs. Why the SCX10?

First, check your driveshaft angles, looked really hard in that video. Then, check all your bearings, axles and trans. Then, slowly rotate while open to see if things are loose and wobbling or too tight. Small shims can tighten things up as far as the mesh goes. Might check dogbones for wear also.

two possibilities...

( 1 )
have the drive shafts been taken apart ?
where the shafts re-aligned properly during reassembly (phased) ?

( 2 )
sometimes the screws that secure (sandwich) the locker housing can back out...
if this occurs the backed out screws could be hitting inside the housing
as the differential/locker turns.

I've gone thru 3 sets of plastic tranny gears...
usually it's the idler gear that fails first.

No longer wanting to hassle with the tranny's weak link...
I replace the internal gears with Axial's metal gear set.

Turns smoother and the slipper is now adjusted as tight as can be.
(probably should lock that or remove it)

I'm betting I won't have to purchase another gear set anytime soon.

I still run the plastic spur gear...
'cuz if something has got to give...
might as well be that

I put new links on after that video which allowed me to make the angles less extreme. Sadly it didn't help.

What do you mean by phased in #1?
I guess I will dig into the front diff. Tranny and rear diff are super smooth driving if I unhook the front shaft

It's not common, but I have seen a couple of the stock "sintered" ring/pinions that had extra flashing around the outer diameter which would cause the issue you are describing.

And yeah, double check that the small 2mm bolts holding the ring gear to the plastic "diff housing" are snug. If they back out they will allow the ring gear to deflect and cause binding.

Maybe to eliminate possibilities try the rear ring/pinion in the front housing to determine if you have a housing or gear related issue.

The driveshafts need to be installed so that the pins on each end are inline. This is called phasing the joints and allows for smoother operation at steep angles since the oscilations from each U-joint cancel each other out (theoretically).

Mine is doing it and it only does it when I turn what mine seems like it's doing is when I turn the knuckle hits the screw holding the chub on
