| Going wheeling tomorrow and have a question!
Hey everyone, I have both a SCX10 and a Wraith which are both pretty much stock. I normally wheel only on dry days but I lucked up and have tomorrow off. Its storming here currently so I know I will end up with mud and water on and all around the rocks I plan to play on. I know the electronics are not set to take much water but how much is a OK amount? I do not plan to hit mud holes ect but its bound to get mud and water all over the outside and inside tomorrow. As well, what is the easiest way to clean these after a run like this? |

My rig isn't waterproof but I have driven in the mud and water, just pay attention to where the electronics are on the chassis and make sure to keep it out of the water. Once I get home with mine I pull the rx and esc off and spray it down with a water hose. Been doing so for nearly 2 years and never had a problem. I'll make sure to squeeze as much water from the tires as possible and let it sit and dry out. |

As long as the rig isn't Sud merged I don't think you should have any issues. Having water sprayed on them won't be a big deal imo. I've had mine in water up most of the wheels and have had no issues

If you haven't made effort to seal or waterproof... it could go either way for you. if you drive slowly and limit splash up... stay out of deep puddles... you could get lucky. Hosing off to clean is fine... but don't hose near the electronics unless they've been water proofed. Or simply remove them during clean up. I use a hose... not pressure spray and use a small paint brush to agitate the surface as I trickle water on to the chassis/susp components. After the rinse/brushing/rinse I will use compressed air to blow off the excess water. again... don't accidentally blow water into the electronics. Removing the electronics and allowing them the time to dry before plugging back in is probably wise. Or even better... disassemble those... and blow them out if moisture has gotten in. Then let them dry for day before using again. A trick for insuring that e components will dry fully... is to bury them in some dry rice. Works great and wicks away any moisture that may be present. Realize it takes at least 24 hrs to ensure that drying has completed. If yer servo isn't waterproof... it might be the first to go. An O-ring placed externally around the output shaft with a little grease helps to deflect water intrusion. Tho' some e components might be water resistant... or located inside an RX box that limits water intrusion. Water tends to find it's way into places that are not sealed well. A dab of silicone at the input/output wiring will help ensure the RX box allows nothing in. Bottom line... have fun... and worry about the fall out afterwards !? Lol Afterwards... fix what fails... and waterproof for round two |

Throw your receiver in a balloon and zip tie it with a dab of silicone. The balloon will wear out but its pretty foolproof. There are too many videos on waterproofing your electronics, but you should consider it for the peace of mind. Some of the older stuff I had would fry if you ran threw a puddle. It had absolutely no water resistance at all. Not to mention some of the esc's and servos can be the most expensive parts of your truck. |
