Default rear lockouts----plastic or aluminum?

Is it best to leave the rear lockouts plastic or is it a good upgrade to switch to aluminum? I have heard mixed thoughts, just wanted to see what you guys thought.

I think it really depends on how hard you are on the rig... When I had plastic ones I bent axle shafts...When I switched to aluminum I broke housings...I don't know if there is one better than the other it really just depends on what fits your needs. I know that isn't much help but... If you want the bling factor get aluminum lockouts... if not just run the stock ones.

Agreed. I'm hard on my rig and have been running plastic for years and they have not broken, but have become kinda loose on the stock housings even though the screws are tight. Rebuilding the other day and found bent rear axle shaft. I bought the Axial aluminum lockouts because they are great fit and much slimmer external dimensions than any other brand, but they've been in my spare parts bin for years lol. Rebuilding with SSD plastic SCX10 housings and decided to open the package and run aluminum for now.

I did break a stock rear axle housing awhile back and this is prolly when I bent the shaft. It was allowing ring and pinion gears to skip occasionally, but I never heard it skipping....kinda chewed up stock cast ring gear teeth but still ran quietly although kinda tighter on the mesh.
