Default My Power Wagon

Hi guys,

Been surfing trough the forum for quite some time, figured it was more than time to present my first scale truck.

Started off as a stock Power Wagon

Trimmed the front lexan bumper and fitted a raised steel bumper

Pittbull Rockbeasts on Axial beadlock wheels
Homemade links

Made a template and then fabbed up a raised bumper mount/recessed inverted winch plate / transversely mounted battery tray / electronics box reposition

Proline shocks

Led light bar made of Aluminium square pipe
Axial high clearance knuckles chub Universal's and lockers
(Have some binding wobble on one of the Universal's have to sort out somehow)

At my 2nd comp

Hope you enjoy the pics of my rig.
Comments and suggestions are welcome

Thanks

nice rig! I'm really liking that front bumper. how hard was it to make your own links and what rod ends are you using? my truck looked very similar to yours before i went to a honcho body. scaler fab makes a really nice rear bumper for this body

Looks like you are off to a good start. My suggestion is drive drive drive. Find one thing you would like it to do better and address the problem. These problems will be different from one driver to another so you are really the only one who can answer that.

Thanks for the comments. Tried to get a bumper that looked right and gave good departure angle.
The links are easy to make:
3mm stainless threaded rod
Aluminium pipe to sleave them and add more strength
Traxxas rod ends
Metal saw & vice (much faster than dremel)

And the old saying: measure twice cut once

For the lowers I got a cheap pipe bender and bent them with the rod and pipe together. Add 6~7mm to the original length to compensate for the bend and 6mm of thread poking out from each side.

Took also the oportunity and clocked the axles ( longer upper links) for more clearance.

When I installed the Axial aluminium chub got my caster angle back in line.

Like your front bumper also, looks like it belongs there

Thanks lonleycreeper.
This is my first hobby grade rc and I was quite surprised with the rigs performance out of the box.

One thing I knew for sure even before buying it, I love to thinker with stuff so for sure I would find things to change/modify on the truck.

Small update, the skid arms where snagging sometimes.

Added two pieces of styrene under them.

Seem to work well

New update:

Homebrew Carbon Fibre chassis rails installed.
Reorganised the layout to try and lower the CoG

Changed to 2x small 800mah 3S batteries running in paralel

Have to say the Homebrew carbon chassis is top notch!
Great articulation clearance and shock mounting options.

New update : got tired of the stock bed hanging up all the time like an ancor. Lifting the truck is against low CoG so I'm making a new bed - comp style.

Tried with aluminum pipes but figured it would just add unwanted weight soooo

Plastic tubes it is

8mm tube with 3mm styrene bed.
Bent with a lighter
Will add top tubes all the way back, but first will paint the bed with bedliner effect.

Not perfect, but with some sanding, filling and a coat of black should look decent

Nice work with the tubing, how are you bonding it together to get it to hold when rolled?

Thanks nerby.

I'm using cyano glue, a few drops at a time to bond and build up so I can sand it smoth before painting.

The pipe angles I wrap some sand paper around a pencil and snd down to match the intersection.
Dremel w/ sand roll works much faster but I'm doing this in the living room when my son goes to bed, so power tools are not an option.

Next step some girders on some of the corners made with 3mm styrene to reinforce and add some scale detail

I'm liking that plastic cage. I've always wondered if it would hold up to some rolls, only time will tell. ;)

Here she be!

Sanded everything down as much as possible to eliminate imperfections from glue etc.
One coat of plastic primer and two coats of lexan black paint

Added the radiator from my Yeti's spare parts bag painted in silver with some black drybrush effect for scale looks
Made a support bracket I made from styrene

And a rotating support so I can swivel open the body from Yeti parts and styrene bracket

Now have to wait for my new servo to arrive (stock one died at the end of that last crawling session)

I gave the tray some good squeezes before painting and it felt solid. But the proof of course will be when I flip the rig a few times.

For now I'm pretty happy with the results, it's not perfect but I'm not making a shelf queen so good enough for me.

Now debating if I should paint the body black, wrap it or just leave it alone.
What do you guys think?
