Scx10 with AE-5 esc running 3s lipo keeps shutting off

I have a scx10 ram power wagon with the stock 27t motor and AE-5 ESC I have a 3s I ran on it today for the first time I have been running a 2s for the last two months and no problem but today I was at a scale course with a 3s and I got in a position when I needed some torque and the esc shut off and I lost driving but had steering I messed around for a few seconds and the esc beeped like normal and it came back but it kept shutting off what do I do please help!!!

Sounds like low voltage cut off or you need a bec to run 3s.

Castle BEC should do the job. The receiver might not be able to handle it properly without glitching. I have a waterproof Castle 10amp BEC that I don't need anymore. PM me if you would like to buy it.

If I use a BEC would it make my rig feel like it's running off a 2s because if that's the case I will just get a ESC that is bigger

Not at all. It will unload the esc and give the Servo load to the Servo and battery.

Your esc is going into Thermal protection. An ae-5 with 3s is going to Overheat commonly with anything under a 35t especially if not geared down alot too. I messed around with ae-5's and before it was all said and done, I got tired of having to let them cool after they thermally shutdown, then if any situation came up where there was a heavy bind on the drivetrain for more than a few seconds often the ae-5 esc would let out that magic ohm smoke. I smoked a total of 5 of them over the last year. My advice if you want them to last is to gear down as much as possible and go up in turns on the motor. Bypassing the esc for the servo will help too but in all 5 of my cases the esc's still let go on 3s despite a bec bypassing the esc. A fan would help alot too, as well as making sure you've got adequate airflow to the circuit board cooling fins.

Thank you so much your response is very helpful if I was to just update my ESC and get one that would handle it what would you recommend?

Holmes Hobbies ble pro or, castle momba. These are what I would look into. However I would try your ae5 with the bec 1st and see how it dose. You will want the bec regardless.

Ok I talked to my local hobbies store and they have a castle bec in Stock so I think I'll get that and go from there thanks so much

You can conformal coat your bec to help make it water resistant.

All the castle stuff I've gotten comes waterproof except the bec however there about to release one that is. The Holmes Hobbies stuff can be bought waterproof as well

Hey Bobcat, like Snapon says, Holmes Hobbies stuff is the real deal. I have never been dissapointed by anything from HH. He makes the BEST product available today far as I can tell.
