Default Scx10 w/ AX10 Transmission - question

Hi

So I bought a AX10 scorpion transmission for a new scx10 build.

Have noticed the outdrives are different .

My question is there any other internal differences?

Will be mounted on a scx10 base plate.
I plan to get a 32 Pitch spur and pinion and the above mentioned outdrives but would like to avoid further surprises

Thanks in advance

I believe the AX10 is being discontinued
but I honestly don't care all that much to know.

But as far as I can see the outdrives are the same
and share the same part # AX 30404 ??

Maybe yours has aftermarket outdrives ?

compare for yourself...

AX10 = instr. # 15

SCX-10 = instr. # 19

Take pictures of it I can help you. There's a few various differences in the axial trans . They can all interchange with one another. Use robinson racing out puts for the most break resistant trans out there. I personally like the vanquish alloy case but you don't have to have it. I lot of guys where I run strip out the screws that mount the case to the skid. Use the machined threads, not the coarse threads from the early ready to run trucks.

Don't know much about the outputs but the machine screws is a must. I've experienced the issue myself.

The OLD ax10 transmission used aluminum D shaped out drives. The same basic transmission is used today with a steel pin style 5mm round output. No big deal to change the outputs.

Thanks for all the replies.

I printed out the docs and will check the part numbers to be sure.

However looking at the gear ratio tables they are quite different

If I calculate a 13t pinion 56T spur as per stock scx10 I get a defferent ratio on the scx10 and the ax10 tables...

There is also a gear shaft that has a different PN...

I see this will take some patience to sort out.

There are 2 different input shafts yes. OLD ax10 came with a non slipper input and the later ax10/scx10 came with a slipper input. A simple picture of your transmission will solve this easily. If you can't post pics email it to me at onebad84yota@msn.com and I'll post it for you.

So figured it out:

List of parts that are different between AX10 and SCX10 tranny:
Top input shaft and spacer
Outdrives
Slipper clutch ( spur, slipper pads, slipper washers, spring)

Also
Ax10 uses 46 pitch spur and pinions (84/20)
Scx10 uses stronger 32 Pitch gears (56/13)

If you have a ax10 tranny and want to convert to scx10 spec it's about 60usd in parts.
A complete new tranny from a breaker can be had for 35 bucks.

Bah, either one requires the same steel internal gear upgrades. Otherwise just rock the original. Eventually you'll twist the aluminum ouputs off. But if your crafty you can drill them out for some 5mm steel rod thats either pinned or setscrewed to both sides of the outputs for a low buck HD output.

For sane levels of power you don't even need the 32 pitch gears. Plus the new style slipper hangs the spur gear further away from the input shat bearings. This equals more overhanging load on the already undersized and overloaded 5x10 bearings.

How come none of the Al cases fit larger bearings?

I've still got my original slipper-less 48 pitch, exposed gears, homemade output shafted AX10.
