| SCX10 or SCX10 II
I`m still deciding between the Vaterra Ascender or the SCX10 but if I go for the SCX10 is it totally wrong to buy the old model instead of the II version? I have got a good deal for a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited SCX10 (old chassie) but maybe the II version is a better (but more expensive buy) Last edited by waqr; 01-24-2017 at 02:31 AM. |

These are my opinions. I own a Ascender and Scx10: SCX10.2 - Out of the box, best choice for crawling/trailing. They are nice and don't require anything to be "great" Ascender: out of the box, they are good. I just tweeted on mine slightly and it's a very capable rig. Scx10: out of the box, it is fun. There is lots of mods and upgrades to make it a great rig. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would opt for the scx10.2 The ascender would have been my choice before the 10.2 came out. Axial took a lot from the Ascender and utilized it. Most of the same aftermarket item will work on both Axials. Expect the hopups specific to the 10.2 to increase, it is still fairly new Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk |

Also the Axles on the 10.2 are from what I have heard quite a bit better than the SCX10. I can only say that they definitely have a smaller pumpkin but beyond that I have no frame of reference as I have only owned the 10.2.

I've never really thought the scx had 'big' pumpkins until recently now I'm snagging and grounding constantly. I'm in the same boat. I have a heavily modified scx10 and a wraith but am now looking towards either an scx10ii or maybe even an ascender. The only thing that puts me off with ascender is the parts back up isn't as great. Apparently it's a better made truck with better plastics.

The 10.2 and Ascender are pretty much on par now. The 10.2 depending on RTR or Kit have either Steel or Aluminum Links, the Pumpkin on it is shrunk and I am sure there are other things I am forgetting, basically just saying the 10.2 and Ascender are more or less on par now when out of the box.

I love the smaller diff of the SCX10.2 but Axial doesn't have a Over and Under drive gears for it yet.....I will stick with my big diff reg SCX10 for now. |

Yeah UCFab and a few others partnered Together and are releasing an Axle Servo Mount for the 10.2 axle. Definitely increase the usage of AR44 Axles, I ordered one for myself so I can see how it fairs on my Gmade Komodo. Probably going to get another one for my TF2 at some point, go 4 link up front .

I've been looking at the scx10 vs scx10.2 conundrum as well. If I go SCX10 it has to be used at a good price, for money left over to get the upgrades. But so far, it looks like it'd be more cost effective to get the SCX10.2 in the RTR form. I know most of you would suggest the kit, but I need to keep my cost down. So unless the SCX10 was in good shape and had all/most of the upgrades, the 10.2 is hard to beat cost-wise. |

I have both. Scx10 Rtr Rubicon and the kit Cherokee. The scx 10-2 out wheels the first gen. . But there something there with the first gen one that I keep upgrading as parts wear. My first gen has the upgrade Axial had steering arms. And hot links link arms. Goolrc 35 turn motor. I'm about ready to do had driveshafts. If I had none and was just getting into the hobby I'd buy the gen 2. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I know if I wasn't buying used when I got my first SCX10, I would definitely have bought a SCX10 II or Ascender.

I have both of them, the SCX10 II KIT, is by far, a much better rig IMO. We were out this past weekend, a guy had an Ascender and another had the 10 II and they both work really well. I would go with either of those and pass on the older 10.

Ascender or SCX10 II. Don't waste your time with the first gen SCX10 at this point.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I hope I don`t disappoint you now but I finally made up my mind on which my next crawler should be. I was his close buying the Vaterra Ascender since many seem to recommend this truck and I also really like the look of it with the super large K5 Blazer body. However, last week I stumbled across a used SCX10 (old version) with a Jeep Cherokee body that was advertised at a good price and the red Jeep Cherokee body really appealed to me. Reminds a little of the Ascender body I think. Here is a short video on my "new" truck https://youtu.be/2xz4pnHhcvI Last edited by waqr; 02-20-2017 at 11:19 AM. |
