Default Second run already broke.!

So I was wheeling my scx10 in some loose dry dirt and I guess dirt got into the motor and now the motor spins but will not connect to the gear inside to make the truck go, it catches every once in awhile but that's it. Is it stripped or just dirty inside.? Help!! Not very happy seeing as unspent $400 for this rig.

It's possible the pinion gear has come loose...
so I'd check that first.

But it's more likely the transmission's plastic idler gear has stripped.

The Trans. plastic idler gear strips easily if the slipper clutch is too tight.

Metal (steel) transmission gears fixes that fault permanently
regardless of if the slipper clutch is set too tight or eliminated altogether.

I utilize the Axial steel gears in both my SCX-10 and Wraith.

There are others that cost less coin.
But I prefer Axial's machining - quality.

http://www.axialracing.com/products/ax30708

They can be had for less then Axial's suggested retail price if ya google that.

Think I got mine off ebay or maybe it was a vendor here.

Axial - http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/ax30708.htm

Other options...

Hot Racing - http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/hotsscp1000t.htm

SSD - http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/ssd00172.htm

The SCX-10, Wraith, AX-10 are all compatible and share the same trans. gears.

Welcome to the world of Axial. I'm glad you got the metal gears and not replacement plastic gears. That's pretty much a must-have upgrade unless you like opening your transmission to replace the plastic case a couple of times a year.

Lol

I've never even taken my transmission apart
without first removing that from the skid.

guess ya can. tho' I'll still likely just remove it anyways.

Sounds like the pinion spur mesh. Happened to mine on the second battery. I just pushed it together and retightened it and it's been A1.

I'm running NiMH though the truck has probably had 20-30 hours of driving and potentially has travelled 50+ kilometres.

Sorry just saw your post! Bad idler gear.

What do you think happened to cause it to strip like that?

3S? Big motor?

My son did one but was abusing the car at the time with a friend (holding the car down and madly going forward and backwards whilst the other child pushed the car in the opposite direction).

My truck is completely stock and brand new. I've had it for 3 days. Lol. And my battery I only a 5000mah 30c. So nothing major I wasn't even wheeling hard either and it just stripped out. Guess just a bad manufatctured gear.? Plus the plastics are weak. Lol

Axial plastic is weak. The idler gear is also a known issue. I don't know anybody with an SCX10 that hasn't stripped an idler gear.

...that's correct

tho' something else in the drive line might break instead !? Lol

But I can attest to those steel gears holding up to 3s use.

But if one of the trans internal bearings fails...
it can still be bad news and mess up those steel gears.

So don't expect those bearings to survive forever... they won't
