Default Beef Tubes versus Kronic tubes

Hi all,

I'm researching axle tubes and want to know if anyone has used the Kronic tubes from Boom Racing. If so, were they good quality? Are they essentially the same as Beef Tubes? I'm all for supporting American companies, however 50.00 bucks is pricey. Has anyone made their own? I have to do this soon as it found a couple of lockout screws stripping out.

Thanks guys,
Scott

T4rscott-
I've tried Boom's Kronik tubes in 2 of my scx10's and 2 of my wraiths w a set on standby for a RR10 Bomber build.
I have a set of Beef Tubes in another wraith, and aside from cost and American product vs import, they fit and perform as they should (it's merely a metal tube to sleave the axle housing providing better support for both the housing and for your C hub screws to grab on to.).
Beef tubes do have options available for XR mods and narrowing, Kronik tubed do not have these options. Both offer brass, and SS- I believe. Depending on what axles your running, you will more than likely need to "clearance " the shafts to get them seated properly ( Dr Dremel).
So aside from cost-as previously mentioned, and how you feel about ordering from overseas ( Asia Tee's now has an Arizona supply warehouse to help speed up shipping times!), the choice is yours!

If you are just looking to strengthen up the axle housing, the Kronik tubes work fine (the gold and silver ones are both stainless steel, FYI). If you are looking for weight to go along with strength, spring for the brass Beef Tubes or TJRC tubes for even more weight.

Beef Tubes are good, but I agree they are slightly overpriced. Boom tubes are also good. I buy them whenever I can.

Make my own all the time, in fact I just made a set this week.

To make them you need a couple tools. Dremel, a drill, lathe as well as 3mm tap and 2.5mm tap(if you are doing a CMS mount or leaf spring)

If you don't have a lathe you are out of luck unless you can find heavy wall tubing in the right diameters, I tried that and gave up on looking.

I also cast them out of high tin lead. It is slightly softer then brass, but is better then stock plastic. If you want heavy this a way to go.

If you want more details, let me know.

Pricing-since I have all the tools I can make 6 sets, or 3 complete rigs for less than $20.00.

I was going to buy the Kronik tubes, but then I came across Xtra Speed's stainless tubes for about 1/2 the price. For $8-$9 shipped, it was worth a try. It's not a complicated part, they fit as they should, no complaints, I'd buy them again if I needed more.

I installed the original STD "Beef Tubes" in my SCX-10.
But they were out of stock when I wanted to do my Wraith axles.

So I ended up utilizing Boom Racing's "Kronic" tubes instead.

The Kronic tubes fit perfectly, cost less and are claimed to be made of SS.
They do look to be made of SS, but I didn't make that confirmation.

If you spend any time around water... the SS will corrode less.

Brass is less also less susceptible to rust/corrosion...
But I'd rather utilize SS, as the later is harder/stiffer then brass is.

Unfortunately the original "Beef Tubes" are not available in SS...
or at least they weren't when I last checked.

I personally think the STD mild steel Beef Tubes are overpriced for what they are.
They rust too easily and require an occasional clean up when that occurs.

So if I did it over...
I'd have Kronik tubes in both my SCX-10 and 1/6 scale custom Wraith.
'cause they cost less then the original "BeefTubes" and are claimed to be made of SS.

Purdy sure I paid less then what they're listed for currently.
Or maybe they were less costly because I purchased them off ebay.
Been awhile since I purchased them so obviously the purchase cost has been increased.

Greed /or inflation... pick one.
Better start inflating the consumers income before we're all in the poor house.

My BR "Kronik" tubes were nearly half the cost of the original "BeefTubes" when I bought in.

I actually thinking about going a step further and doing phat axles. I'm still trying to figure out which direction I want to go.

I have Kronic tubes in my Wraith, however I found some rear axle slop( a lot of play ) after installing the rear kronic tube.

However the front is fit just like a glove with no slop at all.

I just wonder why, no slop after taking out the rear kronic tube.

Xtra Speed tubes here. Removed some burrs, other than that, fit great. Intend to order their steel wraith panels, under 50$ shipped for sides, roof, hood.

Upgrades for crawlers, esp Axial, are ridiculously priced.

I found Gunnar tubes on Locked Up Rc. I think I'm gonna buy from them. Seem like a great company. Really liked the flat top Gunnar since I'm running a Vanquish CMS and panhard.
