Default Motor overheating

I just got my uncle a used scx10. The rig is heavy. We did a quick check and couldn’t find any binding. The gearing is 19, 87 and the truck is running a 2s lipo. Any thoughts on what would make the motor run hotter? Thanks for any input.

That's about a 4.5 gear ratio and you ideally want to be around 5.5.
However, how long before it gets hot?
What motor and ESC is it running?
Did you check binding by removing the pinion and letting everything spin freely?
More info will hopefully point to a solution

get the gearing down to between 5.5 and 6.5 to 1 and it should be fine, also moving up to 3s will lower temps as well...if your electronics will allow it.

I haven’t found any binding issues but on2s with ae2 esc and a 35t motor it gets hot within ten minutes or so. I’ll find a hearing chart and get the gearing changed.

If you're hot within 10 minutes then the ESC may be screwed. Fortunately one of the best brushed replacements is crazy cheap. I'd personally try the gearing first off, slap a 15t pinion, and then try a hobbywing 1080 crawler ESC if the gearing doesn't fix it

a HobbyWing 1060 esc may work too. But, if you plan on running 3s, then get the 1080
