Default Wraith motor overheating

Hello I am new to crawling and I am LOVING it. I have been doing this for about 2 months now. I have made a few changes to my wraith. I have added alum. integy axles front and rear. and added full wheel weights front and rear. gearing is 90/14. I know that with the added weight in the wheels is probably the source of my overheating. But I love the way it runs. Is there a different motor choice that will help this. I know the stock motor that is in it is not the best.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. What will this combo do for the heating issue. I am interested in learning what makes the difference in motors and such.
Thanks again.

Its just decent electronics.

You could try and gear down to bigger spur smaller pinion will reduce temps some

The stock motor will get hot if you continually stress, stall, or don't cool it by running it fast at times. As said above, it could be a gearing issue. However, when I switched to a 35 turn motor and continued with the stock trans and diff. gearing, my motor heat problems went away.

I like the look of your Wraith.

Gearing down will help some....the wheel weights will play a big part in temps....all depending how many pounds you put in there..lol

The stock RTR motor in the Wraith will allow you to have fun....a Tekin Pro4 or Roc412 will allow you to have a blast!!

A MMP esc is more then sufficient for a wraith!

That gearing set up is way too demanding for a 20T motor. Try 87T spur with a 14T - 16T pinion if you have those available. I use 87/13 with my 55T motor and 87/15 with the 20T motor and both run decent temps. Just burned up a 20T over the weekend, running 87/19 to see what it would do. Was fast, but lasted maybe 12 minutes before the motor got cooked! Hope this helps a little. Also, I'm running NiMH 7.2's for batteries.

Thanks for all of the great help. I have added 9oz. per wheel for weight. I will try a 35t motor and see what happens.

Thanks again.

9oz per wheel sounds like a bit much.?.?. Maybe not but most I've ever ran was 6oz per front tire..and I was worried that it was too much..lately I've been sticking to 4-5oz

I agree. That is when I noticed the heating issues and I am sure that is causing it. But I love the way it sticks to the rocks. That is why I am looking into a motor that will handle it. You guys have been a great help.

Until you save the shekels for a big expensive combo, You could just drop an integy 45 or 55 turn lathe motor in it. Cheap, and decently reliable, plenty of torque, especially if you wanna crawl. Don't need to change the esc, just program the drag brake a bit. Your LHS should have the castle link system. Mine just lets me use it if I need to as they have it hooked up to their computer. I ran that way for a loooong time, and was more than happy with it! Great for starters, or as a placeholder.

Thanks for everybody's help. I took what you said and put in a tekin 45t motor and esc combo. All heating issues went away today.

Thanks for your help.

9 ounces, holy poop. I run less than that in my comp rig! Is that front and rear?

If you want alot of weight try getting some knuckle weights, then you can run less in your wheels. I know you said the heat went away with the 45t , but eventually you may want a faster motor.. the knuckle weights will keep the rotating mass that your motor has to move down, but still help keep your wheels planted. .

The weights are front and rear. Total all up weight is 9lbs.
The knuckle weights sound interesting but will they take away from the scale factor?

Off topic but do you have any pictures of the integy housing disassembled? The third member unbolts from the housing correct? Does the third member have removable bearing caps? Thanks a bunch.
