| When is it too much ?
Hey Guys /Gals, Not new to the forum, but new to the " scaler " world. ( Have a RS10 rock crawler so I used to be on there a lot ) Ive aquired a used SCX10 just to tinker with and get into this scale thing a bit. After doing the usual stuff to it ( Metal lower and steering links, shock adjustment, battery relocation etc..) I started adding parts, which bring up my question........how much is too much? My rig is right at about 7lbs, its a 2012 Rubicon, the silver one. Seems heavy considering ive seen 2.2 rigs weighing around 4-5lbs. As of right now this is what has been added / changed to the rig from stock: -Stainless steering links ( Made by me ) -Stainless lower links ( Steering links from a TMAXX happens ) -Metal front and rear bumpers -Metal rock sliders made from 3/16" steel rod ( Made by me ) -Aluminum bead lock wheels 1.9 size -1.9 INJORA super swamper knock off tires ( seem to work great for me ) -Leather Tagra top for the roll cage ( made by me ) -RC4WD winch and wireless controller -Body has headlights and tail lights ( lenses and kit made by me ) -Bumpers are lit as well -5" lightbar across the windshield -Inner wheel wells made from cool whip containers -Aluminum battery relocation tray as well as front bumper mount -Just finished tonight a rock light setup in the wheel wells. -Some driver figure the previous owner had popped in the drivers seat It has 4 separate light systems that can be controlled independent of each other ( Body, bumpers, lightbar, rock lights ) as well as another 9v battery running the rock lights, the body and bumper lights are run off the receiver and the lightbar is run from the 2s Lipo. Again, when does it end????? how heavy is too heavy? I can try to put pics up if there's any interest.... |

What you have done is mild and I don't believe would be too heavy, my next concern would be beefing up the drivetrain if you haven't already. I still have two original SCX10's and both have many mods, metal bumpers, sliders, etc and they crawl great for what they are, however I have the drivetrains built up in both, metal gears in trans, HD ring and pinions, MIP shafts and beef tubes. I know they would be heavier than yours and have no problems. |

I was starting to think that 7lbs is getting kinda chunky but if it’s no biggie than I won’t worry about it. I forgot to mention I also filled the Axial drive shafts with solid aluminum rod, supposed to help in them not twisting off. ( I know that all too well with my TMaxx. Spun the stock 2.5 shafts off like butter with the 3.5 I put in now running HD shafts) I guess I’ll enjoy the rig how it is until I find the next weakest link then upgrade from there. So far it seems fairly solid |

That sounds like a solid plan... My scx10 weighs in @8.5 lbs. But it has a huge hardbody and has got a Scx10II axles last year. Btw crawls great and trails even better. |

When does it end ? when you start mounting inside stuff on the outside ? Too heavy when tires no longer hold the rig up ? Sounds like a couple of good bench marks |

Mine is around 8lbs with similar mods, plus a spare, roof rack, interior etc and a bunch of brass goodies. I personally like all the weight, it moves more realistically while being slightly more challenging, although the brass does offset about of the higher cog. |
