Default Picking up a used rig

Im picking up a used SCX10ii tomorrow. I have been out of the crawler game for over 5 years now but Im excited to get back into it. I plan on putting a Rooster Crawler setup in it with a 55t motor. What are some of the first upgrades you guys recommend? Im looking for what to do it basically just for durability.

use something else other than the rooster and 55t setup.... you dont say as to which it is...is it an rtr or a kit version...the kit trans is geared a bit lower than the rtr trans and i have found that a 30t holmes torque master works exceptionally well...I think a 55t would be horribly slow with little to no wheel speed when you needed it...

I do have a couple motors sitting around I can play around with so thats not a big deal. It is a kit version.

well, the rooster esc is questionable on durability, try it and if it tanks, then go to the axial ae-5 or the dynamite equivalent..the ae-5 is what I run in all of my crawlers except 2 which one is brushless and one is the dynamite esc... no issues from any of them after 2 years.... the kit version really doesnt need any upgrades as far as I am concerned. I have the kit and the rtr versions...and have upgraded nothing but tires and wheels on the kit version. the rtr version i put the kit trans in and upgraded the wheels and tires

Thats good to hear. The Rooster is all I ran back when I was into crawlers before. I started with the original AX10 scorpion kit that I still have with that setup in it and never had an issue. Ill use it for now since its what I have laying around and Ill upgrade that later if need be. The bad part about it is that it doesnt have the original body with it anymore but I might use this body on the AX10 and try to pick up the Cherokee one for this one down the road too.
