Default Bumper options for XJ

I hope I didn't miss this elsewhere; but, I have searched for bumper options and not found much (not found many pictures or reviews to gage fitment on XJ body).

It seems that one of the only real complaints on the new SCX10 II is the bumpers with the XJ body. Although the front bumper is LARGE, I think I've had more issue with the rear hanging up since it sits lower than the body.

Please post pictures and specs of aftermarket bumpers on your XJ.

----------------

For me, I think I am going to get a less obtrusive plastic set for now. I eventually would like a metal set of bumpers and rock sliders.

For plastic, I have seen the AX80039A on the front and it looks good. I'm curious if the matching AX80039B will work or not. If anyone has used it on the back, please post up a pic. If not, I'm hoping to pick one up this week and give it a go.

You could just pick up the bumper moints from the earlier iterations of the SCX and fit any of the bumpers currently available

Right; but, I'm wondering what bumpers work with the XJ body... not the frame. I'd like to see some of the existing bumpers that work with the new body.

Obviously most narrow numbers would go on. I think many people are looking for full width options that work with the body. The rear is another case all together with the shape cUT out under the lights.

I need some F-150 bumpers.
Might just have to make them myself.

Did you just bend and weld 1/4" round or what? Being new, I have not done any serious fabrication yet. I would love to custom build a set of bumpers to my liking.

I've chopped up the front bumper, brought it in flush with the front grille etc but still getting caught up all the time. Rear bumper isn't much better, removing the tow hitch is a must.

I'll post pics later. I picked up the ax80039a. I am considering chopping off the outer tubing and just leaving the center bull guard/stinger piece. This would allow it to slide even further back and would be a pretty tight bumper at that point.

Here is the scaler fab one, nice bumper fit and finish is okay. The mounting holes could be moved up a little bit for a better fit. The dring mounts are on the bottom, if I knew they were there I would have not have them on it, I think it would look better if they were on the outside of the fairlead hole.

rickrob, that's a slick looking minimalist bumper; however, I agree on the placement of the D-rings. Obviously they're out of the way for a tighter straight on approach; but, I wonder if they'll scrape or hang up as you roll up on a ledge... You'll have to give your thoughts after running it.

I did pick up the AX80039A. It is an improvement over stock in terms of not sticking out so much

If you clipped off the outer two tube sections and trimmed the bumper ends a touch, you could slide it back even more making a very inexpensive and tight solution. If you clipped off the D-ring brackets, you'd be even tighter

I'm still hoping to find a better option for the back. I may eventually try my hand at fabbing one or go with something like the metal options posted above.

The AX80039B doesn't have the right cut on the top and looks like it would leave a pretty decent gap between the body and bumper. It may be easier to match lines with a Kit version XJ where the body could be trimmed accordingly.

The only real concern with the stock rear bumper is how far it sits below the body. Dragging it isn't the worst thing; but, I feel it sits lower than necessary

If I was totally worried about approach angles and hanging up the rear, I'd put a different body on my SCX10 II altogether. I would like to build a Honcho eventually. That being said, It appears that there are great front bumper options in different materials and price ranges. I have not yet seen an inexpensive plastic option for the rear.

I've had a few non RC friends over recently. They unanimously enjoy driving the SCX10 II XJ more than my Bomber. Great vehicle even if you don't change out the stock bumpers.

I have ran mine once, the rear bumper only gave me issues when dropping off a ledge it would get hung up. But the plastic slide easy enough for me not to worry about changing it for now. I like this truck alot, it is a hole different truck then my wroncho, have to drive it completely different. I like how the bumpers hang out a little, the wroncho almost 90 approach angles front and rear.

Rickrob, I'm curious to know about the D-rings under the front bumper. Do they get in the way?
