Default Strong AR44 gears?

What are some strong AR44 gears that aren’t Underdrive for the rear? Broke 17 teeth on my ring gear lol.

Axial:https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/ax31405.htm

VP: https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/vps08330.htm

SSD: https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/ssd00181.htm

Which gears did you munch? Were they the sintered ones? I've never had issues with the above gear sets, these are all hardened steel.

Just to add, for the VP or SSD Gear set, make sure you get the 6 bolt locker as well if you don't have it already.

Thanks!

Yep, the sintered ones.

I’ve had good luck with my ssd overdrive gears. Just ordered ssd standard gears for another build. The only underdrive ring and pinion you’ll find is from vanquish. But as stated, be sure to buy the 6-bolt spool

Thanks Fricker! I’m about to order the SSD 30T/8T combo and the 6-bolt locker.

I’ll throw out that some people, myself included, have struggled getting good mesh with the Ssd overdrive gears in non-Ssd housings so keep that in mind. Not sure if they were ever updated or even planned on being updated.

Love me some Ssd but I’ll stick to boom racing, hot racing, or axial for optional gears since those have all fit well for me in other rigs. One day I’ll get some vp UD gears.

The ring/pinion and locker I got from Amain said (UPDATED!) in the name so, I think they’re updated lmao.

While I agree that the SSD gears are a bit on the tight side I've never had them fail, when shimming them there seems to be no perfect outcome. Over time im sure they free up a bit. Some folks have definitely had issues though.

I think the updated note on the SSD product page is referring to the 6 bolt vs 3 bolt pattern.

Ah okay, I wasn’t aware they were ever a 3 bolt.

The stock AR44 gears were super rough at first, but over time they got buttery smooth. I’m sure they’ll be fine.

Agreed and agreed.

I had issues with them in a Capra axle but they never failed, just toight like a toiger. Chewed the locker a tad even. If I recall correctly I’ve since moved them to one of the several Ssd axles I have, and they’re still running strong.

I've never had issue with the SSD gears in Axial or SSD housings. They're certainly made to a tighter tolerance and in my opinion all almost all gears require shimming, maybe I'm just ocd and hate slop.
