Default Servo Bonfire

Ok. I’ve had my honcho since January. I am running all stock electronics (AE-5L ESC and tactic receiver)with a 7.2 v 5000 mah NiMH. I have burned up 2 tactic servos, one Traxxas servo, and one Savox servo. Anybody got any idea what I’m doing wrong and how I can fix it? I’m thinking of getting a hitech 7954 but I don’t want to bake it off too.

Set your steering end points so you don't overwork the servo.

If it's pushing the steering links past the maximum angle, it will burn

Let’s pretend that this is my first 1/10 scale rc and I don’t exactly know how to do that. Just for pretend.

Make sure you are setting your end points correctly. Raise the front tires off the ground and turn all the way in both directions. The servo shouldn't flex or move. If it does, you are trying to turn past the natural range of motion and are straining your servo

Well I just figured out why this particular servo fried. When I turn the wheels driver side, the horn hits the frame rails and that’s probably what killed it. Also explains the difference in turning radius.

you set end points through the radio, which radio are you using?

Also end points are simply the maximum travel distance for the servo, its very important for avoiding damage

If you've got the TTX300 heres a video on how to set it.

The Tactic servos are junk so no surprise you burned them up. But you're on the right track now with setting end points.

Those servos suck, if you keep the tire turned for more than 30 seconds you will burn it right up, usually blowing the fuse.

Amd on some scx10s the servo arm actually hits the frame brace under full shock compression
