| SCX10 or SCX10.2 transmission?
After building the SCX10.2 recently I am kind of Meh on the new transmission design. I know it’s suppose to be more scale but is it really better than the standard three gear version. My old SCX10 with metal gears is still going strong and all I do is a seasonal tear down and re grease of the trans. What say you? |

The lower CoG is the really big benefit IMO

Not a fan of the new design at all. Built three, and had to grind the secondary gear in all three to get them to spin smoothly. Unacceptable. Maybe on the first run, but after a few years that should be fixed by now. Old three gear design was simple and nearly bulletproof. Been running them in various forms since what? '09? Never had a problem that I can think of. That says me. |

Heck, I’m wondering if I can install an Enduro transmission in my SCX10.2?! Talk about buttery smooth. Last edited by RABIDFOX; 08-03-2019 at 07:29 AM.

I thought the enduro trans was a drop in replacement. Even if not were talking about drilling some holes in plastic no? I don't have one myself. An I thought the new scx10 trans was just a different case. I am curious now. I thought only the Cherokee jeep kit had a different yeti style trans Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk Edit: I am referring to this transmission AX10™ TRANSMISSION The ultra compact transmission allows for a wide range of gearing choices. The overall ratio can be adjusted using different pinion and spur gear choices allowing super high speed or competition level crawling speed. The new transmission housing design still retains the basic function of the original transmission but in a new more scale looking case. • Final drive ratio (FDR) 42.00 – Original SCX10 was 33.06 • All metal internal gears! • Scale looks – silver color looks like cast aluminum • Better mounting points at the base of the transmission – no more stripped screws! | Re: SCX10 or SCX10.2 transmission? I'm pretty sure he's referring to the SCX10ii kit transmission. The Enduro has the same mounting holes as the old 3 gear trans. Replacing the kit trans with one from an Enduro would require replacing the skid plate or drilling new mounting holes. |

The builders kit came with two chassis plates. One for the new transmission and one for the three gear transmission so fortunately I can either use the three gear or the Enduro trans. That is fortunate.

Odd that they would give you a skid plate for a transmission that isn't in the kit, but good for Axial for giving you options.

Enough hot glue and you can use any transmission. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

I think the confusion is "builders kit Cherokee". There is a builders kit, and a Cherokee kit but no "builders kit Cherokee". The Cherokee kit comes with the new transmission, the builders kit comes with the old transmission. |

Anybody make a quality aluminum case upgrade? Hardened gears would help me sleep at night too.

Also agreed and relatively easy swap/drill holes add/remove little skidplate material. And there's a thread here somewhere from 6 months ago or so and guy made a plate, turned motor around proper (true forward motor) and then iirc made OD/UD from attached transfer case. Quote:
Cheap and easy. Would be nice.

| Re: SCX10 or SCX10.2 transmission?
Going to dig up this thread. This morning I went to change my pinion gear from the stock 13T to a 9T in my II. I quickly found out you cannot go that low without having to grind or slot the transmission. Also, the II motor mount is quite a bit thicker compared to the OG metal trans plate. This does not allow much of the motor mounting screws to go into the motor. So, my resolve was just to install the OG trans into the II. Allows you to run the gearing you want and more motor mount screw penetration. I did swap out the stop shaft and the clutch assembly to the OG trans. I wasn’t overly impressed with the II trans from the start.
