Default 48P vs 32P

Hey. I have no ide what the diffrence is betwee a 49P and a 32P pinion. Can I change the stock pinion gear 48P 14T to a Pinion gear 32P 11T ? Or do I have to change the spur aswell.

48P quieter, 32P more durable

The spur gear is 32P so you don't have the option of using a 48P pinion gear.

Really basically, pitch is an expression of teeth per inch on a gear. On a given gear diameter, 48p has more smaller teeth while 32p has fewer larger teeth. To themountain's point, 48p was quieter running but tended to be fragile, 32p is stronger but you tend to get more mesh noise.

Like GA Dawg said, the 48p designation of the pinion in the SCX10 III manual is a misprint as both the pinion and spur are 32p.

Good info has already been passed along but here is a visual reference to show the differences:

Tnx all! Great help. I really like the new scx10III But think it needs to be slower in first gear.

I went with a 13t pinion with a brushed 27t motor on 3s, but I may drop to a 12t for that very reason. Since I had them written down:

32p 11t Axial pinion - AX30722
12t - AX30723
13t - AX30724

Agree. I went with an 11t and really like the slow speed control.

A bit of a fiasco when ordering. The supplied 14t would not fit the 5mm shaft on my Tekin Roc412HD, so I ordered a 14t 48p (per the manual) with a 5mm shaft. Needless to say, the 48p would not nesh with the spur. I then ordered a 32p 14m with a 5m shaft and all was fine until I decided that I wanted to slow her down a bit. Anyway, 4 pinions later I wound up with an 11t 32p 5mm bore and am really happy with the final result.

Thanks a bunch for this info. I had no idea this was a misprint and explains the problems I am having trying to get my 48P to seat properly.
