Default RTR SCX10iii, who's guess?

No telling when this thing will be released, but what is everyone's guess on what it will actually be? We all know it will not have portals. What do you think the tranny will be? Will we be seeing another jeep body? My guess is a very stripped down version with no wheel wells, fixed single speed tranny with no dig, maybe even a whole different tranny housing. Generic non-licensed body, wheels, and tires.

If it came without portals, dig and 2 speed removed, it might possibly the first RTR I'd prefer over a kit.

I bet on a new generic body. Honcho 2 or Deadbolt 2

I’d hope they could offer it in somewhat of a form like it is now just rtr. I think it would be a joke to have a completely different trans and not allow the option to add the stuff to convert to dig or 2 speed.
We all know they’re going to release non-portal axles for this sooner or later. So maybe even a couple different levels or rtr would be nice. Or even a bind n drive for guys that already have a higher end spektrum radio.. being a horizon company.

I am hoping that they, aka HH does the same as they did with the Capra. Release the rtr with all the options as the kit. Maybe a bind and drive so they dont have to deal with the cheap rtr tx.

Yeah, I’m expecting the first RTR 10iii release to closely mimic the kit.

When? My guess is useless, but I’d say prior to Black Friday.

Under normal conditions, they release something new every 2-3 months. The SCX10 iii is 2 months old & The Bomber refresh is about a month old at this point. I’d expect another kit or RTR release at the end of June, July at the latest.

Rich is showing it on the Harley/SBG livestream right now. Official announcement is tomorrow. Should start shipping later this month.

RTR has the dig and the 2 speed is locked out, but has all of the gears if you want to remove the lockout.

Still has the portals. The straight axles are still in testing.

$499

Rich also says that there will be a change to the trans gears so that won't be any square indents causing transmission clicking.

Did I hear right that the SCX10 III RTR uses an integrated ESC/RX?

If so, WTF? Remind my of 1980s Radio Shack. 🙄

I think the Losi Mini-T also had a rx/esc combo

What's the problem with an integrated ESC/RX on a RTR ? As a first buyer, it doesn't matter as you don't have any other radio to use with it and don't need to change the ESC for a better one until you gain some experience. As an experienced buyer, no matter what electronic comes with the RTR, you'll throw it away to install your own.

I'd imagine it is one of the new Spektrum ESCs which has all the tuning options of a HW 1080 (even uses the same programming card) and a 4 channel DSMR receiver.

I picked one up to check out since they cost less than a regular 4 channel Spektrum receiver.

I'd have to watch again to see if it's the same model as that, but yes, that's what they are going with.

It is the Firma 40 in the RTR 10iii per the live stream.

My biggest surprise was with the price. $499.99 takes it to top on RTR prices I believe. The TRX-4 Blazer has a higher MSRP, but street price is about $10 under the SCX10 III. The Bronco can be had for $30 cheaper than the SCX10 III. Both of TRX-4's are higher quality (IMO) and they also include all of the required electronics. The SCX10 III RTR doesn't include the 2-speed servo. The TRX-4 also has the advantage of a 550 motor and separate ESC and receiver.

Tough sell for me. If I was in the RTR market my money would be going to Traxxas.

And the very odd 4 wire servo that wasn't compatible with anything else.

The problem is that if the ESC or RX dies you have to replace both. Also, you can't upgrade just one. You have to upgrade both components.

I'm glad I didn't paint mine gloss primer gray or reddish orange.

They're up on Axial's site now too. Still looks more red to me than it does orange, but I do really like the color.

Just another cost saving short cut for the manufacture to increase profit and cost the buyer more money.

If the ESC or RX fail in a conventional set up, you just have to replace or upgrade one component.

With this, you have to replace both.

I’ll pass.

The 10.3 has an interior which is worth a few dollars. The Traxxas trucks still come with a plastic servo horn too, don't they? That's another few bucks, as most users end up needing to replace those. The Traxxas does have two micro servos for full functionality though, so it definitely gets points there.

I don't have direct experience with either, so I can't speak to the quality, but from where I'm sitting, the trucks are pretty comparable, and it makes sense that they are close to the same price.
