Default Wraith Crawler

Somewhat new to "real" crawling...
I have a rtr Wraith with Novak Terra Claw 55t and factory esc running on 2s with 18t pinion and 80t spur. Torque is really good but motor gets pretty hot. Just installed mip driveshafts and everything feels free, no binding. Should I try a smaller pinion or throw a fan on the motor...Please help...and any other tips on making this thing a crawling machine.

I had (or have) the same problem here. But I read through the beginner's guide and got an 87t spur from an scx10 which helped a lot, but a 14t pinion is on it's way to me.

Probably going to have change over to a 25-35 turn motor to get my wheel speed back up once the 14t is in.

here is a link to Robinson's racing charts as well. This helped me alot in desiding what pinions and spurs to run , try to keep it around a 5:1 or very close and no more over heating issues.

You're geared too high like the other fellas already mentioned. You're probably going to have to get an 87t spur gear and then try it with your 18t pinion and see how that goes. You'll be able to gear down further with that spur if you have to.

2.2's and wide axles are a recipe for hot Motors and cooked esc's. I know very few successful guys that can run brushed on a Wraith. Especially if you want some speed..

Lower the RPM of the 55t motor, like if you have a 20t pinion gear it will slow the RPM. there is also a gear chart in the Wraith manual or on the Axial Racing.com site.
Try some electrical terminal cleaner and spray the motor around the brushes and commutator, it will evaporate.
