Default battery life with or without lights on?

i was wondering how much less life you are getting with the lights on all the time. im running my same motor and batterys from my last crawler at about the same weight and only made it about 15 min instead of like 25ish do the lights really drain the battery that bad? im putting them on a switch tonight but was wondering if others have noticed this allso the battery was hotter then normal when i took it out. any ideas

With what gearing tho?

The LED lights are not going to rob you of ten minutes
run time. Might not even take ten seconds out.

Count your spur and pinion teeth between the two,
I believe your answer is there....... for both questions

In a word, YES

You went from 55.77 (12/87) to 30-32ish ratio

Sorry I cant be more specific, but I am looking up the Wraith stock ratio as I type/edit
Maybe YOU could look in your manual and tell me?

I think it comes with an 80t spur.........
AX30665

so it all comes down to your pinion gear

YES, pinion down in tooth count. (motor gear)
You will loose some top-end speed, but gain crawling torque,
and things will run longer and cooler.

But with that chewed up spur comment I wonder if you have your
gear-gap set correctly???

Set it too tight, and things bind and heat up,
too loose and the gear gets "chewed up" .

Nice looking rig too BTW

But not much more than an 87 tooth spur is going to fit in any Axial rig, (SCX or AX type)
starts to hit the drive shaft, not to mention it has to still fit inside the new spur gear cover....
to over simplify the issue

ok so ran it today and it lasted about 5min then acted like dead battery put new battery in lasted for about 20 acted like dead battery tried 3 diferent batterys all full charged and nothing no steering no gas an not even a light on the esc, so i took the hood off got to the light plug and just unpluged it that took about ten mins when i was don with all that i checked the esc cause it was pretty hot feeling and it felt fine so i put a nother battery in and it worked for for three batterys back to back to back about hour and a half and never got that hot anymore and my batterys lasted just as long as allways WTF i have front and rear steer. with the lights hooked up it gets hot and shuts down like dead battery with lights unpluged it runs great all day long. what is the cure can anyone help me i would like to use my lights

Might have a bad light board.
Hook them up to their own battery I guess.
You can get a 4AA battery case at radio shack
and a switch to wire in too.
Might want to use rechargables in it so your
not buying regular ones all the time.

Its a bandaid fix but will work and take your
main battry out of the picture to get back your run times.

Should maybe get in touch with Axial too.
They may replace the board for you,
but you will probably have to send them your old one first.

As others have said, no way your lights are going to draw 10 minutes of power from your battery. You're talking a few milli-amps and hour per lamp. Gearing, motor, overall weight will have a far bigger effect on your battery life than a half dozen low draw LED's
