KoH style Wraith Picked up a RTR Wraith in a trade a few weeks ago and now just getting a chance to get it running. This Wraith was lightly used and as part of the trade I did not get the stock electronics. My plan it to make it a balanced KOH style rig that can do both high speed runs and crawl with the best of them. Here is what I started with after I disassembled and cleaned it: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05433.jpg To start the upgrading and modifying I went deep into heart of the beast and installed a Robinson idler gear and Aluminum main gear, I can't wait for the Axial dig parts to hit the LHS. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05434.jpg Then I dug out some old Losi 4" crawler shocks and rebuilt them with new o-rings. I also installed some fuel tubing for bump stops and to shorten them up by 12mm. Check out the shock rebuild stand I made from Al. flat and channel stock: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05444.jpg Now on to the goodies that I found in my stash and have been collecting; VP SLW V2's, Axial Ripsaw R35's, VP C-hubs, VP knuckles, HH BR-XL (non water proof version), Specktrum SR300, Axial universals and an old Hitec HS-5955TG servo: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05446.jpg Waiting on a HH 27t TorqueMaster Expert motor and VP CMS / panhard mount that should show up this week:mrgreen: |
Nice start to your build. What battery do you plan on running? I am waiting on my HH 27t as well and I plan to run 2s. |

The .225 hubs on the 1" V2's fit nice"thumbsup" http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05454.jpg The lowered stance is much appreciated: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05453.jpg |

updates?"thumbsup" |
Yeah, sure I got an update! Last week I went ahead and slapped some MIP drive shafts on it and reassembled all the pieces. I then took it for it's maiden run at a park near my in-laws. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC00009.jpg The rig handled great, only a couple small issues to deal with. Turns out the tires rub on the lower links at full steering lock, hoping some bent lower links can solve that issue. Also not sure why my HH27t that i ordered specifically timed for Wraith reverse rotation is going faster in reverse than forward. Other wise a great rig to jam around in and still crawl out of tough spots. I recently picked up a new HD video camera and Abobe video editing software, here is the result of my first experiment in videography: KOH Wraith_001-YTWsSD.mp4 - YouTube |
Thats the same motor I have in mine,(not running yet) it looks great Now Im charged up to finish up mine:mrgreen: |
Re: KoH style Wraith Here is a bit of an update for this truck. To beefen up the feel of the truck I picked up a set of VP Ti links. I also installed some HD lockers and gears in the "kit" orientation so that my HH 27t runs on the proper direction. I found some HPI M4x2x12 set screws that allow me to properly use my existing MIP drift shafts. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05478.jpg I got a hold of a DinkyR/C V2 Wedge roof and V1 Flatty hood, I then spent the majority of the day today fabricating some panels from .025 aluminum http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05492.jpg I got some more things planned for this rig... |
Re: KoH style Wraith nice man, gotta love the panels, shimmering in the sun, looks sic. |
Re: KoH style Wraith Rig looks great "thumbsup" |
Re: KoH style Wraith Feel like I spent all weekend making panels to mount stuff to this Wraith... First I prototyped an 0.028" thick Aluminum panel that might make its way into production, this panel is designed to mount either the 3", 4" or 5" MadDogRC - chino63 light bar to the top (or bottom) side of the Wraith roof. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05523.jpg Next I prototyped another set of panels that definetly will be a production piece. These 0.060" black Styrene panels will allow users to mount our Wraith specific Delrin Rock Lights to the under side of the Wraith rockers. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05525.jpg Lastly, I fab'd and painted an Aluminum tailgate panel that Ill use to mount a single rock light that I painted red as well as a d-ring for towage. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05533.jpg Some install pictures coming tonight... |
Re: KoH style Wraith Pretty cool idea cant wait to see how they look on the wraith especially at night."thumbsup" |
Subscribe to this one for sure!! Looking sweet so far with light mods! |
Re: KoH style Wraith Good looking setup. Where did you find lock nuts that would fit on the tie rod and drag link ends. |

Now on to an update; first I made up a wiring harness to hook up all these lights, it ended up as a two piece harness since the switch will be attached to the interior and I want to keep every thing modular. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05537.jpg The new light bar panel can be used under the stock roof panel to ensure a sturdy base to attach the bar, it will also work under with the Dinky lid with the 3" light bar: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05534.jpg The rock light panels attach to the inner case with zip ties, the Wraith specific rock light buckets attach with thin M3 hardware so as not to interfere with the interior: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05529.jpg The outer holes of the rock light panels use M2.5x8mm screws in the stock locations, M2.5 hex nut will be used to hold in the interior: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05530.jpg I also assembled the tail gate to the chassis, the M2.5x8 screws in the lower holes of the d-ring bracket go straight through the frame so that it's stout. Here is mock up with side panels, mmm... http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05540.jpg Hood mounts are Associated cross drilled socket head cap screws with some 3mm Aluminum spacers: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05548.jpg And how could you not want a 2" light bar on the front bumper?...fits nicely in stock location... http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05543.jpg |
Re: KoH style Wraith Nicely done. "thumbsup" |

Re: KoH style Wraith Ok . Got ya. I've tried to do it with some tin snips. I can close but, that belt sander would be key. They look sweet. |
Re: KoH style Wraith This thing is sick! I really like that rear panel with the light and shackle mount. |
Re: KoH style Wraith Guess I was suppose to praise your panels before I asked how ya did it. |
Re: KoH style Wraith Can we get a pic of it all lit up to check out those lights??? |
Re: KoH style Wraith OK, you got pics! Didn't want to put any of the stock lights back on so I zip tied another set of the 1" rock lights to the front bumper. The angle is actually perfect to illuminate the rocks in front of the tires: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05549.jpg Roof light came out pretty cool. I wish I would have not cut the opening in the top until after I measured it, now I have two 3/16" "air ducts" on each side... http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05566.jpg Rear panel turned out sweet: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05565.jpg Now pics: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05558.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05561.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05563.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05554.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05553.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...z/DSC05557.jpg "thumbsup" |
Re: KoH style Wraith On the shocks you just added 12mm of tubing to the inside and thats it? Want to replace the stockers but want to stay the same length or tad shorter even. ALso mounting hardware, use the stock hardware? thanks! Great rig, dig those lights! |
Re: KoH style Wraith Holy !@#$ !!!! That is awesome!! What is the link for those lights?? |
