Default --k5 class 3 wraith--

Time to build a Wraith I'm guessing. And build it is. It started life as some left over parts from another build for my good buddy RPMJ, basically the chassis. And then a rear axle that I picked up from Kaetwo, new front housing from RPP along with some needed parts to complete with universals. The axles got some more hop-up parts that I robbed from a set of SCX10 axles I got from Norm at team3six. Tying the axles to the chassis are a full set of 3/16" stainless steel links and a set of SCX10 shocks from my part box. I already offer the SS links for the SCX10's but now will also have them for the Wraith, so be on the look out........coming soon!

I pretty much just want to use this rig for crawling, so it will be set up as such. And yes I'm going to run the plastic chassis..........well for now anyway.

Parts list:
-HR Unibody lockers
-Hardened gears, 36/14 front
hardened stock ratio rear
-Axial universals
-R2j Kustoms SS Links
-SCX10 shocks
-Stock Wraith trans for now
-MIP shafts
-Mamba Max Pro
-17.5 Tekin or 8.5 Novak
-Futaba 4PL
-Savox 1268 or Futaba 9157
-Savox servo winch
-And of coarse.......
Dynamic Concepts K5 body!
-RipSaw R35's
-wheels undecided

On the list:
-VP goodies
-R2j Kustoms SS Steering kit
-maybe a custom CMS and 3-link
-dig
-"Chino" Lightbar

Can you see what's different about it, compared to a normal Wraith?

Thanks! The body was pretty much what made me put another another Wraith together. I had one a few months back and got rid of it. Now here I am again.

Definitely not going to use the stock bumper, but I have a custom one in mind. Not to mention I shortened the chassis in front by a 1/2" to clear the grille. The K5 front end is too pretty to cut up. Also, if you didn't catch it, the wheel base has been shortened by an 1" in the front to accommodate the body proportions. Can't really tell in the pictures, huh, but it's at 12.5" now. I will be using the stock interior but not the seats, I have a set of team3six ones I've been holding on to for the right project.

Had a little progress yesterday. Obviously the steer on the RTR's is less to be desired. So I fabbed up a tie rod out of 3/16" stainless rod that matches the stock profile. That seems to be the best for clearances, and with the smaller diameter it clears nicely. Once I get a drag link fabbed up and a few runs on the rig, I'll be offering a steering kit to the masses.

With this set up I'm getting pretty much 100% throw in both directions, well 100% if the tires were not hitting the links and shocks. So really, as mush as allowed I also set it up with the tie rod on the top of the knuckle arms. The servo arm just clears the top of the tie rod when tires are straight. I'm using a tall Hot Bodies arm so that I could try out mounting the drag link behind and still keep it in line with the tie rod. I'm liking this set up so far. Now that I have a length for the drag link, I can get that fabbed up out of the same 3/16" stainless.

Thanks Bro! Yep, I will be offering both steering kits and link sets. Should have a thread up for the links this weekend. And then steering to follow.

The stock Wraith front bumper and trac width really limits design freedom of a body to fit on the Wraith. We will try to make more allowances for the next Wraith body.......

The K5 project looks very nice, Shon.

Thanks Kurt! Loving the K5! I'll need to do some creative trimming along with the right wheel offset to make the shorter wheel base work perfect with the body, but I really like the look, so.......
