What's your budget for a servo?

This one is very strong, waterproof, and only $22

HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : BMS-660DMG+HS Super Strong Digital Servo (MG) 14.2kg / .17sec / 52g

Or this one for $17

HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : BMS-630MG Super Strong Servo 13kg / .17sec / 49g

And then get this metal arm for only $3

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=14848

IMO the best servo for the buck is a Hitec 7954. Sure, they may be about $80 on Ebay, but your going to spend more than that in the long run if you run cheap servos and keep killing them.

Default X3 Hitec

I have been trying the cheaper servos, iv done some research on these forums and i could have saved a lot of downtime and money by buying the hitec the first go around.

Servo for RC Cars & Trucks: Replacement Servos - A Main Hobbies SAVOX also has a few good servos. I have heard that Hobbyking is kinda "hit & miss" Never had anything by them.

Now that I have installed a BEC I am very impressed with my CHEAPooo towerPro 995 servo,,
I run it on 6.7 volts and it rocks for the $10 I paid for it. Makes me question my Hitec 7954 purchase.. Sure its quiet and fast, but $10 compared to $100. it should be 10 times better, but its not. Plus, now Im scared to bust the 7954 cause it costs to much.
I see the TowerPro 996R can run on 7.4 volts but torque specs are only listed for 6V.. For $12 you just cant beat it.

Deal Extreme $12 free shipping.. I just ordered 2 of the 996R's 5 minutes ago.

Im in the same boat as the OP. I was reading reviews on this servo and people complain that it when sending your steering to the middle position that it over turns then goes back to straight. Is this true? Also, is a BEC required or just makes it run better? Thanks

I don't look at it as a $100 servo should perform 10 time better than a $10 servo.

But it should last ten times as long, at least.

Stay away from any Blue Bird servos, a forum I am on for 1/8 electrics have used this and reported many failures

If in doubt for budget, get one of these, this is what I have done

HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : HK15298B High Voltage Coreless Digital MG/BB Servo 66g / 20kg / 0.16s

@ 20 KG for 7.2 v, 18 @ 6 V, should be more than enough till you can afford to get something better
This is the route I have chosen as am strictly working within a budget

With the really inexpensive servo's I have found that the pressed gears spin/strip. Never had that issue with a Hitec or JR's Ive ran. Im liking the Savox servo so far too.

Towerpro MG946R front half of case cracked after 30min while playing around on grass. Im not impressed by the gear layout and lack of support on the gears allowing them to flex on shafts/ bind /then crack.

I'm sure your right about the poor quality but I have to add.. I bought a $100 hitec 7954sh and after only 4 minutes of driving it spun an internal press fit gear.. I had to put my TowerPro 995 back in so I could keep running the rest of the day and everyday since, while I wait for new gears.. On a positive hitec note, customer service rocks and they're sending me free gears.
