Default do you really need a receiver antenna

  • I don't see a receiver antenna on most rigs. I have one but i don't know if you need it with the 2.4 gtz radio. Can you just leave the antenna wire rolled up in the box.

For the distances we use while crawling or trail running ... Leaving the antenna rolled up internally is fine. There is a slight reduction in range but nothing we'll notice.
I you start racing and get 100'+ away from you car you'll probably want to stand the antenna up again. Heck, I used roll my 27mhz AM antenna's internally without any issues crawling.

I always just tuck mine in the rx case or Scotch tape it to the top of the rx.

I usually have a 4-6" antenna tube coming out of the rx box just in case. As was said, don't know what I'll feel like doing and would rather not worry about range. But there are a couple guys that coil up the wire into the case of the rx itself and don't seem to have much issue within crawling tx ranges.

With my antenna wire rolled up in the radio box I can go about 100' . Like the rest said you probably wont be more than 10' away anyway if your crawling .

I just jammed mine inside my project box, and I can still easily run the length of the local football field with no noticeable issues. Keep it inside and protected is the way in my mind with 2.4Ghz.
