Default wraith shocks.

hey guys, just have a question about shocks. I want to upgrade the shocks on my wraith and I am wondering what people are using. I'm not too wrried about scale looks, more about performance. Has anyone tried the traxxas big bores? Any input would be much appreciated

I am amazed at the travel I'm getting with the G-Made 124mm Zero shocks. Only limit is the frame.

Performance, Proline Powerstrokes for the front of a Slash 4x4 (3.5") will Lso lower ride height. These are great for high speed and limit suspension flex which is not a bad thing at all. Some people are trying to get tons of flex but that really isn't needed.

Guess it really depends on what you want to do with it then?
Harley would you say articulation is not so important if climbing is your main objective?
I'm wanting to lower my truck cause it's soo darn top heavy, but droop kit seems to severely shorten my travel.
Is this acceptable trade off? I only plan to crawl with it.
Thanks!

Lol. I think that guy is a spaz. So do most in the 1:1 world.
Pretty sweet vids though for sure.
And his engine sounds like sweet music.

I'm more into the technical aspect of it.

Check this dude out!

I think it's pretty obvious your choice depends on what you're looking for in your truck. You making it stock setup? Then you can go aluminum Axial 72-103mm, direct fit. Pro lines are a good choice (I just bought some to try). Stock XR10 shocks are nice and smooth. You can put whatever on it, all depends on what you're looking for.

I run the Traxxas Big Bore rears on my truck and while it flexes well, it soaks up the bumps and whoops. For me the 95mm Proline scalers really limited travel to the point of an obvious sacrifice in crawling. If you're tipping the balance toward the speed aspect, then the 3.5" (89mm) traxxas would be a good place to start.

The length of the front powerstrokes will definitely shorten things up but it will let you run your mounts in the original locations and the extra oil capacity is great and completely necessary on a big boy like the Wraith. The 95mm Proline Scaler Shocks just don't have the fluid capacity to resist fade.

I'm running XR10 shocks and I let em sag a little. soaks up bumps well, will still articulate if I need em to. The extra travel helps soak up hard landings.

What springs on the Big Bores?

I have a set of 4 Big Bores sitting in my drawer. Might give them a try.

Proline 4x4 Slash rears all the way around and a droop kit. For me! But I prefur to use a lead foot. Stick with a 2.2 comp rig(crawling up anything) , scale 1.9 rig(spots you wuold take your real street rig) the wraith is a rock racer(you can make it get ther but it might take some more wheel speed to get ther) I'll get off the soap box now
Seen that vid

I have a question about making due with the stock shocks and how to keep them from throwing up all its fluid out the cap. I was wondering if a little pipe tape/thread tape on the shock body threads would help. I planned on trying it anyways, just wondering if anyone's gave that a shot yet.

Eventually, ill be looking at how the the Pro-Lines compare to the Kyosho Velvet 105mm's. I'm looking for an all-rounder, more towards crawling. I'm going brushless(roc412 3100 with 2 speed) if that matters. I'm new to this, but im sucked into it real good, lol. I take a lot of pride in my work and im soaking up all the details you guys throw at me. The combined experience on this forum is mind boggling.

I've used tape with some success but find it to be a pain with so little area. Even with fixing the leaks I don't stick with the stock shock on any rig other then a bash truck. Like all the other weak links that we change and fix it's best to just upgrade the shocks. I plan to use the powerstroke on my build.
Good luck

I keep mine from leakimg by using a decent amount of liquid elctrical tape on the threads during assembly. Wipe off the excess and let it dry a day before use. Bone dry after a full season of use. Plastic bodies and caps no problem.
