Default ax-2 drag brake?

so i recently got my axial wraith, i love it but.....

its say the ax-2 ESC has a drag brake, but for some reason my wraith will roll off everything if i take my finger off the throttle. am i missing something?

btw my wraith is the RTR version, and i am using a 4700mah stick pack

thanks guys

Mine is the RTR version and if I'm on carpet going fast and let off the throttle, it almost lifts the rear wheels. Sounds like yours isn't programmed with the drag brake. There's instructions on Axial's website on how to manually program it without the Castle Link.

I have the AE-2 with 50% drag brake and when I let off the throttle the rear does lift off the carpet. I guess that is because I have the battery in the front and wheel weights up front too. It is funny to see. I am going to have some new wheels with weights all around so that should help.

Oh and mine is kit Wraith not RTR so I am in the build mode still too.

Even with the castle link it only lets you set it to 100% and it still rolls off of rocks and hills. You cant program it like the sidewinder to 150% or more.

Follow the instructions in the link below. I just set mine to 100% and the drag brake is strong. Axial's website says that the default setting is 100%, which is wrong. It comes set at 50%. Now on carpet, it will do a nose wheelie when I let off the throttle. Give it a try. It only takes a couple minutes to go through the settings.

I reprogrammed the ax2 in my wraith and see no improvement. Still rolls off everything.

The stock motor is poop, get yourself a nice brushed motor and it will hold better. Mind you its not the holmes hold but it works well

+1 The motor has a lot to do with the drag brake as well.

I have a Ridgecrest (has the same ESC and motor as the Wraith) and I programmed mine yesterday with the Castle link and set the drag brake to 100%. Much better on the steep stuff.

Is the ridgecrest's gearing different than the wraith?

I threw an old 27t motor with stronger magnets in the truck, still not seeing much rolling resistance.
Wondering if this esc is just bad...?

Both the Ridgecrest and Wraith manuals show the same gearing (I downloaded the pdf files from Axial), but the manual for the Ridgecrest is wrong- mine came with 87/20 and now I'm running 87/18 and still need to slow it down a bit (stock motor is 20T). Manual shows 80t spur. I ordered a cheap 27T motor for kicks and see if that helps a bit.

Can you borrow a different ESC and see if that helps? Possible the ESC is bad, but if others say the stock motor is weak I's probably replace that first.

What gearing and motor are you currently running without an effective drag brake?

Im running 17/80 gearing.
Drag brake doesnt exist on the stock motor, other motors I've tried are old non crawler specific. a 27t motor showed slight improvement.
I dont think the ESC is bad, it only has 4 fairly easy hours on it...
I am going to try a HH 16t (THIS ONE)

The AE-2 and Sidewinder on the stock 20t motor are really about the same in terms of braking power. I stuck a 55t stock Axial motor in and it was a big difference. The AE-2 set at 100% stops the Wraith on my test ramp, but just barely. If you nudge it you can get it to roll a little. The Sidewinder with 213% brake (crawler brake) holds the Wraith tight and the wheels won't move at all.
