is it ok to run it on 3s with out a bec in freezing weather?

I don't think AE-2 can run 3S.......period

with a bec yes, i wouldnt run it without one though

I ran mine for a short time on 3s without a bec, but had problems with the servo. Put the bec on and it was fine.

Not if you want a trouble free system... and temperature doesn't matter, voltage does.
