Default 4x2/4x4 selectable

had a thought about using a dig unit and turning the motor trans combo around on the skid to make a selectable 4x4. quick search and the idea has been voiced. but doesnt seem anyone has went through with it. probably would not work with the original interior, but figured i would throw it out an see if anyone has tried it yet. wouldnt really be beneficial other than scale realism, but if combined with an open front diff could probably improve high speed mannerisms. about a year ago i thought about doing something similar with an LCC trans but someone pointed out the gearing differences and that it would be ridiculously high.

I have a wraith trans set up that way in my scx and It's definitely cool. Not sure if you could do it on your rig because of interior.

should i go that route i will just ditch the interior. im also currently modding it for FPV so will have to hack up some of the interior anyway.

I ran a flipped cheapo 3racing dig in my AX-10 back in the day, allowing 2wd (freewheel) or 4wd. It was when I had a Titan 12T in it, more of a rock racer. It was pretty awesome in the Dusty dry soil, then flipped it to 4wd for the mud. It worked great and I have often thought about getting a two speed tranny with a flipped dig for my scx. Seems like a complicated finicky project though. i was thinking it'd be fun to bomb around in high gear with 2wd.

One of the main problems you will have is the spool(locked). When you try to turn in 2wd it will push you around. Really it will be of no benefit other than cool. Spend the money on a two speed or rear steer.

Yes it does push a lot in 2wd. And having more weight on the front sometimes you have to put it in 4x to get over some stupid little rocks and stuff due to no traction in rear. It's more cool factor then functional. But 2wd donuts are always fun.
