| Servo upgrade
I think one of the first things I am going to do to my wraith is upgrade the servo and the steering linkages. I have been using Savox 2271 in my 1/8th buggy, but have been thinking about moving to hitec. What would be a good servo for the wraith? Thanks in advance. I purchased this hitec servo and have been beating the hell out of it with my mmp /pro4 combo. No issues so far and lots of torque. That's not a bad price. I was thinking about the 7945TG, but that seems like a great price. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta |

Get a Hitec 7950th and be done with it. 403 oz. torque @ 6 volts not @7.4. Will increase servo longevity. And right at (can't remember exact number) 500 oz. torque @ 7.4 if you want. Can pick one up on ebay for $110.

Savox 1283 416oz. Competive price. All metal everything http://www.nitrohouse.com/product.as...Fa9fQgodSgkARA I kinda dig savox servos. Brouse the savox servos. There's a few worth looking at in the 70-100 dollar range. http://www.savoxusa.com/Savox_Corele...ervos_s/36.htm I run the 1268 Wish I'd of known about the 1283 or I'd of bought it. I like Savox also. Hitec is great but I've had great luck with Savox and they are (depending on which servos) are close to half the price of an equivelant Hitec. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

Well the servo issue is a must now. I took it out today and kiled the stock servo. So looks like I will be ordering soon. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta |

I know everyone's usage is different... But I broke three (3) Hitec 7954SH's in five packs with my Wraith. Two stripped the smaller MK gear, and one is completely unresponsive. One with a stripped gear even wallowed out the upper plastic case where the pin bushing rests. 2 were new out-of-package, and the third was robbed from my AX-10 where it served wonderfully, in a BTA setup, for over two years. They have great torque and response speed, but the MK gear is a real bummer, and Hitec uses it as a "fuse" on all their 7950 and lesser servos. IMO the width and steering angle of the Wraith is hell on servos. I tried a Savox 2270 next. It lasted a few monthes before the case cracked literally into peices when landing a brutal jump on just one front tire. Worth noting that every time I ran it through a whole pack it was literally burn-your-finger-instantly hot from the stress of rockcrawling. I was surprised that the electronics lasted and the case let go first. It also would not work with my Novak Havoc ESC, glitched like crazy, even with an external BEC. Swapped to a Castle MMPro and it worked fine. I would reccomend either the Savox 1283, or a Hitec 7950. In my mind, nothing less is a long-term solution. Could someone positively assure me that a Hitec 7980 clears the front frame rails throughout the travel? Cause if so, that's my next servo. Worth noting: I only run aluminum horns on my crawlers. I ran another 7954 with a plastic horn for snow bashing with a Castle 3800 4pole last winter and it survived. I did break over a dozen plastic horns however... Land just one jump at an awkward angle and then go replace the horn. I run a Savox 1268 in my 1.9 SCX and it performs admirably, even almost two years later. I would not consider it strong enough for a Wraith however since I can bind up my 1.9's enough to make it struggle. |

Any servo can brake a case. My 1268 runs cool I've bashed it and cartwheeled a lot and man it hasn't got sloppy yet. Knock on wood. My wraith sees 6s speeds wicheans high speed crash action. I run a aluminum horn to. I've noticed most people run pretty damn long servo horns this puts stress on the servos running shorter horn or even just in one hole will make for happier servos. But at the expence of a little less steering. |

Plus, if my 7954 breaks, I want to get something better (like the 7950 everyone has good words for) | |

That is a very good question that deserves a looking at. While both the 7950 and the 7954 use the same MK gear, which, next to the pinion gear on the motor, is the smallest gear in the servo, it is also the least stressed because of the additional gear reduction after it. From what I've seen, even with new out of the package servos, is that the Titanium gears have less backlash than the steel gears, at least for Hitec servos. I think that the additional backlash allows for higher shock loading of the MK gear, which it does not tolerate well. I have no scientific evidence that this is what is going on, but I do know that you hardly ever hear about a 7950 stripping the MK gear, and I've done in a few with the 7954. I also know that my 2 year old 7954 had more slop in the gears than I considered ideal. The Titanium gears will wear much slower, which theoretically translates into a longer lasting MK gear. The MK gears are fairly cheap, about $12 for three of them, it just sucks to have to disassemble the servo to replace it. On an unrelated note: I would really like to see someone break the fully aluminum case on a Savox 1283. I think the rest of the crawler would have to be totaled in the same accident for that to happen. I have waterproofed several servos by packing the cases with dielectric grease on both the electronic and gear side. The Hitec's didn't mind this one bit. However, the Savox 1268 ran much hotter and slower with the gear side packed with dielectric. I cleaned that all out and re-packed it with much thinner Lucas wheel bearing grease and it works fine. This tells me that the Savox servos have much tighter tolerances on the gears that do not appreciate having to displace the thick dielectric grease while they rotate. I can also tell you, for sure, that when Savox says "full metal gears" they are telling the truth. There is no hybrid, half-metal half-plastic, gear to act as a fuse in either my 1268 or 2270. |

I initially ran a Hitec 7955 but stalled it out a little more often than I'd like. So I stepped up to a 7950 @ 7.4v and have been extremely impressed ever since. I look forward to driving the wraith just so I can use that servo, that's how much I like it. |

Very good info here.. I have also seen the mk gear go out in the 7954. I have also seen the brass insert in the steel gear strip. I have yet to have a issue with any of my ti geared hitec, with the mk or any other gear. Got a cs-170(re branded hitec, ti gear 333oz) used and replaced a bearing at the output. While it was ran for a while before replacing, the bearings had rolled thru the teeth and the inside of the case. Its still in my scaler. The 7955 is serving my wraith well. Even stripped a clamping aluminum horn off from the diff of high speed bashing an crawling. No issues with the servo. Savox runs hot in my sons and they are amp hungry and noisier. Ready to trade the 1230, 500oz at 6v, for a hitec |
