| How Low is too Low?
How low is too Low? I know because of the cage the Wraith is kind of top heavy. Harvey's guide says to go with a set of Proline Powerstroke Shocks. He suggests The front shocks for a Traxxas Slash for a lowered Wraith. Now if I flip the lower shock mounts, and go with custom upper mounts like those on a DMX Stiffy Kit. Would the Slash front shocks be too short? or should I go with the Slash rear shocks? |

You run out of clearance between the axle and cage pretty quick. My cage pretty much sits on the front axle. I want to rework the cage to get more up travel. I still have the lower mounts on correctly and stock kit shocks but I am using a lowering kit.

So, you are saying even with the lowering stuff I will need the LONGER shocks?

I'm not saying that you want longer shocks but I don't think that shorter shocks plus other methods of lowering are going to work well together.

I run Slash fronts with stock mounting in the front and flipped upper rear mount. My lowers are about parallel to the ground when it settles to ride height.

think as most will say...once you get the lower links to lay flat your pretty spot on for a wraith.

When i had my stock wraith shocks on my rig, I flipped the rear upper shock mount and all lower shock mounts to lower the truck. Now I am running all slash front on all 4 corners, and I think that the truck is sitting too low. I flipped all shock mounts back in stock position and now it sits perfect with the proline power strokes slash front all around. I gained a little bit ground clearance and the rig is still very stable in high cornering speeds. I'll try to snap a picture and post it. Search "Rok Out's" rig. I beleive he has the exact same set up. -Byron Last edited by TeamBosing; 01-15-2014 at 01:33 PM. |

if you run proline slash short shocks 3.5 inch, you will not need to flip any of the mounts. I run 30wt in the shocks and seems to do really well.

Im running rear Bigbores xxl, about the same length as stock, with Level3 lowering kit tp and bottom mounts not flipped. Sits pretty low with this. Hits cage rear with a couple of mm travel left. Front clears, other than the inner front bumper just touches the front of the servo and stretch over it. Not a problem for me. Seems to work great with lower cog and good articulation. Do want some clearance under the skid, so I don't see the benefit of making it even lower for my kind of driving.

If you look around you will find better approaches than following one builders deep pocket opinions. You can stick with the stock shocks and change springs to achieve a low sitting wraith with very good ride characteristics. Not to mention, you wont be altering the stock suspension engineering design. I personally did not like the proline shock setup....too much tuning to get it close to where I wanted it. cheap ridgecrest starter build. Post number 4 talks about another option Last edited by redsawacs; 01-15-2014 at 02:28 PM. |

To me...the lower the better. (Within reason lol) Im making raised upper shock mounts front and rear and I actually cut off the front lower frame tubes right in front of the shock mounts to allow for a LOT more uptravel. I have a DMG stump back TA stiffy kit so the rear has plenty of room for uptravel. I want it to sit very LOW, with 4" shocks (Proline Powerstroke rears) and still have plenty of up travel. Build in progress. I will post pictures or do a build thread soon. |
