Default Mat's KOH style 1.9 Wraith/Venom hybrid thing!

I managed to pick a cheap wraith roller a little while back. Having a Wraith already I decided to hack and slash this one about a bit to make a King of Hammers style 1.9 rig.

This is how it came to me.......

I was undecided about either modding the Wraith axles or buying a complete set of scx10 axles to give me a better scale appearance but then remembered my girlfriends old Venom Creeper!!!

So I gutted her crawler for my own evil plan :P
The Venom Creeper axles have a very close gear ratio to the Wraith axles, so no need for any gearbox trickery....just slam those puppies under there and see what happens!!
Mocked up some link lengths with the Venom axles, I think they'll work out great!

more soon!

Went on a link making rampage last, got lots done and made some big progress

Had to cut the front drive shafts down a bit because of my shorter wheelbase.

Ordered some cheap topcad shocks.....seem pretty good for the price

We have a roller!!....Apart from the links and roof supports the only real mod so far is that I've brought the bumper closer to the body...in by about 6mm.

Loads more to do yet!!!

@hpiguy, Thanks mate ;)

A little bit of progress....

Seats are mobile phone holders I've had on my shelf for about 2 years waiting for the right project! The driver is from the Tamiya Hilux kit, he needed loads of shaping to get him to sit right in the seat mind!!!

Did you run into any serious problems with this build our was it pretty straight forward. I ask because I'm thinking about doing it.

@Cortina79 - Thanks fella, he will hopefully look better all painted up!

@cneill24 - the only real problems so far was getting the Venom axles lined up and getting the links the right length....I had to order bent rodends from RC4WD so nothing would bind also....nothing major though all do able

I've been having a play on CAD and got this knocked up on the CNC......

A little LED light bar, I used casting acrylic poured over the LEDs to create a lens.
The LEDs run of 12volts so I can use a 3s lipo straight to it

Here's the results.....

I think you could see these from space lol

As you can probably see I've be fooling around with an alternative hood, not sure on it yet!

I'm not sure if you guys noticed but in the first pics I posted of the Wraith it had some homemade panels made by the guy I bought it off....these where made out of aluminium sheet and sprayed black, he didn't do a bad job.

Wanting to put my own mark on them out came the tools!! lol Luckily he had not primed the alloy before spaying them and the paint pealed of like bad sun burn! I little bit of reshaping and cleaning up the edges and they're ready to go ;)

I had my Level3 Chassis servo mount come in a few days ago, had a great bit of brain melt adapting it to the Venom axle!
In the end I had to basically install the mount backwards and use a short servo to get everything to line up. Took me few days of messing about to dial it in but it's sweet now

Oh yeah....I managed to fit the lightbar under the roof too!

So what did the wheelbase end up being? I'm gonna do a similar build with mine but with SCX axles.

Wheelbase is about 12 and 1/4 inches

@mexico - thanks man, hopefully if there's a break in the shocking weather we're having I'll get some pics and video

Got the seats mounted, little dude painted, harness for little dude made from lanyard and cable eyeletts and hood matt blacked (had to go back to the original hood)!

Trying to get some ideas about decals too...

Jobs still to do....
Lightbar and rear lights to wire up
New idea for new hood!
Maybe new roof as the original obscures the light bar slightly.
Rear wheel mount. Stupid red strap is just temporary lol!

Modded the alloy roof that came with Wraith (see first pics).
I think it suits the lightbar better.

I had and old Axial Dingo body kicking around so time for more experiments.........

Yes or no folks?

I'll get the specs on the LED strip when I'm back in work tomorrow, I just cut a section off the roll! Lol

There's a big selection in eBay though, I've seen some 6mm wide micro strip that would look more scale ( my strip is 10mm wide)

So you got them off the ebay?

The 6mm wide sounds like it might look pretty good.

No, not off eBay, an electronics shop in the UK. I'll get more details tomorrow for you
