Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Great looking rig, and nice photos. My buddy and I were on Mt. Tolmie today, what a blast! What part of Mt. Doug do you go to? |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Thanks. We started from the parking lot off of Blenkinsop and made our way to the summit from the left and down to the right. Such a fantastic place to crawl our rigs eh? |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Good photos ! and interesting cars. Wheels ? > Gear head. |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Thanxs. Yes. Gearhead wheels. I can't say anything bad about them, they are heavy (which is good), and hold the Pitbull RB II tire's beadlock perfectly...even with 4S power. I'm extremely happy with them. |

Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler I had some extra time on my hands so I decided to change the look of my Wraith a bit. I removed the majority of the stickers, changed the steering wheel to a chain wheel and completely changed the rear fastback mod. I used the longer SCX10 links, which were a perfect fit from the rear roof cross-member to the rear body cross-member. The crossbar on the fastback is actually a modified Wraith aluminum tie rod. I added a shock tower brace and also re-fabricated the ECS cover panel. I fabbed up the number plates which provide additional strength to the SCX10 links and provides some visual distinction! Just have to get myself some numbers now. The old fastback old was very good, but complicated and this is much cleaner looking now. Whatcha think? <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908740214/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_47"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4069/34908740214_b4140e31e0_o.jpg" width="1024" height="618" alt="Wraith_47"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908740024/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_49"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4126/34908740024_96e10ba2ab_o.jpg" width="1024" height="580" alt="Wraith_49"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35749937915/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_48"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4242/35749937915_01060f6f9b_o.jpg" width="1024" height="602" alt="Wraith_48"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35749938025/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_46"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4239/35749938025_97537f3a3e_o.jpg" width="1024" height="643" alt="Wraith_46"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908740364/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_45"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4287/34908740364_3ba8e45b5c_o.jpg" width="1024" height="576" alt="Wraith_45"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35580671382/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_44"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4020/35580671382_dc65306278_o.jpg" width="1024" height="563" alt="Wraith_44"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908740574/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_43"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4018/34908740574_e66ff88084_o.jpg" width="1024" height="623" alt="Wraith_43"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Few more mods ordered to fine tune my Wraith... Axial M4 Serrated Nylon Lock Nut (Blue) (4pcs) - To help keep the wheels tight with all this power! Axial AR60 OCP Rear Axle Set (2pcs) - Spares for inevitable! Axial Heavy Duty Bevel Gear Set 38T/13T - Decided I'm going to under-drive the rear end since it's already got 43/13T gears...this will go into the front. (front is currently 43/13T too) Pro-Line SC Powerstroke Slash Rear Shocks - Going to replace the G-Made 103 Piggies with these to see how they work out....I think the G-Made's are a little too stiff and the leaking is starting to drive me nuts. Pro-Line SC PowerStroke Shocks Rear Spring Assortment - Gives me shock tuning options. Gear Head Wraith Droop / Lowering Kit - Gives me height tuning options. This beast is a MONEY PIT...but....I love it! |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Before the wraith, I had the HPI Baja 5B, that was a money pit, and people would tell me to f#%ck off all the time.....lol |

Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler After spending too much time with other new RC's I have purchased, I decided it was time that my favourite machine needed another upgrade. I opted for the X4 Racing Voodoo U4 tires (silver compound) along with Gear Head 2.2 EZ-Loc wheels. I've really like the performance of Pitbull Dos Piezas 2.2 Kompilation Dual foams, so I modified a set of new foams to fit the Voodoo tires. I had to take approximately 1/2 inch of width off of the white outer foams because the Voodoo tires are a little skinnier than the Pitbull RB II tires. I also picked up a pair of Yeah Racing Aluminum Servo Mounts. I'm looking forward to trying these new U4 tires out. I have been extremely impressed with the Pitbull tire performance; these new Voodoo tires have big shoes to fill. (pun intended) Here's the pics: <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35580671142/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_50"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4115/35580671142_5d6faced80_o.jpg" width="1024" height="612" alt="Wraith_50"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35580670892/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_52"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4104/35580670892_cab588e892_o.jpg" width="1024" height="596" alt="Wraith_52"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35749937735/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_51"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4124/35749937735_e88740e228_o.jpg" width="1024" height="406" alt="Wraith_51"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35580670692/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_56"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4030/35580670692_cd7bf1dc98_o.jpg" width="1024" height="538" alt="Wraith_56"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35580670752/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_54"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4229/35580670752_fe36e12f08_o.jpg" width="1024" height="539" alt="Wraith_54"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908739854/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_53"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4278/34908739854_8413737eef_o.jpg" width="1024" height="602" alt="Wraith_53"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35749937595/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="Wraith_55"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4122/35749937595_bb89f081c9_o.jpg" width="1024" height="626" alt="Wraith_55"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Great look'n truck! |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Went out crawling on Sunday and had a chance to test out the new X4 Racing Voodoo U4 tires (Silver Compound). Overall, I'm pretty impressed with their dry performance and it should get even better as the tires get broken in. Like any other tire I have used, once they get wet, traction isn't very good on the rocks. I do wish there was a little more sidewall protection, but hopefully they will endure the torture from the rocks when the Wraith is using the side of it's tires to climb out of hairy situations. We ride in some pretty knarly/sharp rock areas and combined with 3s brushless ROC 412 3100kV power, the tires showed absolutely no wear or chunks missing at the end of the day....I'll have to say, that's impressive. <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908399644/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="bilinvic_Wraith_01"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4289/34908399644_d754ae610a_b.jpg" width="1024" height="576" alt="bilinvic_Wraith_01"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908399534/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="MtDoug_28Sep14_02"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4118/34908399534_bf4af10f52_b.jpg" width="1024" height="576" alt="MtDoug_28Sep14_02"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35362138920/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="MtDoug_28Sep14_01"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4097/35362138920_105d322692_b.jpg" width="1024" height="576" alt="MtDoug_28Sep14_01"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler I was getting too much wheel slop with the Axial CVD axles, so I got myself a pair of the new Vanquish Products Wraith VVD V1-HD 4mm Axles....no more slop. I also changed out the VooDoo's foams from the Pitbull foams to Crawler Innovations 5.5 Double Deuce Pair (2) - SOFT Outer - Comp Cut. My Wraith ran absolutely incredible crawling lines today. Now I'm commencing the procedure of waterproofing the whole rig because in my part of the world, our winter consists of lots of rain, no snow! Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler You jinxed it, you said no snow, we can't say that out loud.....lol |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler The Wraith received a few new parts and a new look...since the last post, it has been completely waterproofed. In fact, the whole rig has been pretty much been 100% submerged and no electronic glitches whatsoever (knock on wood!!!) I added VP's CMS and 3 link Panhard kit. I changed out the VP steering link for RC4WD's Superlift Adjustable Steering Stabilizer. I modded this part with better link ends and sleeved the adjustable rod with aluminum tube to further strengthen the assembly plus it covers any exposed threaded sections of the link. New Axial 2.2 Falken Wildpeak tires. New Axial Spawn body. Although I have modded my Wraith to a fastback, the body fit's perfect and seems to have lots of integral strength without the rear roof bracing. I like how the fast back can be seen through the rear "windows". <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/35750041205/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="WraithSpawn_03"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4261/35750041205_8bf3513a51_o.jpg" width="1024" height="556" alt="WraithSpawn_03"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34940415803/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="WraithSpawn_04"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4077/34940415803_f725d711e1_o.jpg" width="1024" height="554" alt="WraithSpawn_04"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34908812554/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="WraithSpawn_01"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4005/34908812554_e2687f573a_o.jpg" width="1024" height="565" alt="WraithSpawn_01"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/156142005@N05/34940416113/in/album-72157682732498833/" title="WraithSpawn_02"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4082/34940416113_f2be2c49e1_o.jpg" width="1024" height="698" alt="WraithSpawn_02"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler The next round of mods for my Wraith is completed! I put her on a "Low COG Diet" by swapping in the new Wraith Spawn interior which is quite a bit lighter than the older version; also provides lots of room underneath to mount the electronics. The MMP got moved from the rear deck to underneath the driver's seat and my second electronics box was removed in it's entirety. I modified an AE-2 ESC mount to accept the MMP. Since the above modifications pretty much required a full teardown, I also mounted Blue Monkey's Wraith Stage 2 Trailing Arm Kit. It's a really nice kit, but it definitely took time to tune properly and when using large bore Pro-Line (Slash Rears) shocks, I had to get creative to make enough clearance to use these shocks. I did have a quad rear shock set-up at first, and it was working pretty good, but decided I wanted to use the Pro-Line shocks to match the front...besides, these shocks perform awesome. I also had to swap out the rear MIP driveshaft for a JunFac hardened steel driveshaft since they utilize smaller "bells" for the CV. I was also considering going with the DMG rear Stiffy (trailing arm) kit, but decided I didn't quite like the looks of the sharp rear cut-off....not to mention the hefty price tag. I can't wait to run this rig with all the recent mods....I gotta feeling it's going to kill the Rocky Mountains! Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Fantastic looking rig. :) Can't wait to get my VP axles now.... |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler As I suspected, this Wraith was outstanding in the rocks. The trailing arms' rear articulation was awesome and stabilized the rig when the front end was overcoming the rough terrain. I had no issues with the CMS / 3-link / Panhard set-up, worked perfectly. The new Axial Falken Wildpeak 2.2 tires were fantastic (Axial foams). They performed incredibly well on the rocks and in the mud. They gripped hard in soft-pack and stuck really well when climbing our Rocky Mountain terrain, even in the wet. I may have to get another set for my other Wraith now! The blue Poison Spyder Wraith in the video is my Son's (7 years old). <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/JzdT8Jlsdak" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler I watched that Vid last night as I'm subscribed to NoStopin. Looked a fun trail. The Little Blue FJ always does really well in every video I see it in which is a surprise as most of the rigs have much bigger wheels than him. :) |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler I hear ya...the blue FJ is basically a stock SCX10 driven by a child and it pains me when it does better than mine in some areas!!!! |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler Iv'e been following your threads for some time now. You definitely build some pretty nice wraiths too, looks like you have a few sweet collection of CAC E-Z lock wheels also. I always see different wheels on your rig and in your videos too. |
Re: bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler For me, wheels and tires are like purses (or shoes) to women, can never have enough! lol |
