Who modded the transmission cover ?

Once I read a discussion here where the transmission cover was nicely reworked in order to reduce its width. There were lots of photos documenting the different steps to achieve the result.
I don't remember anything else about that thread so it is impossible for me to find it again. Can you help ?
Secondly I have another need related to the transmission cover. I think it is extremely useful in taking debris and pebbles out of the gears, but I would like to mount e-maxx shafts and there isn't the clearance. I wonder if somebody else has tried to cut and trim the cover near the output shaft in order to increase the space for the shaft.
