Default 1.9 Wraith and shocks...

I need some advice from other 1.9 Wraith owners. I plan on buying new shocks for the wraith soon. I want to lower the ride height a little too, so I was thinking of the the Proline Slash front shocks.

One issue I have is that the rear shocks rub on the lowest part of the frame. When I was doing the 1.9 conversion I used my dremel to grind away for some clearance , and I also used a bigger spacer on the upper shock mount. This works well for the wraith shocks, but the Prolines seem to be fatter.

I appreciate any suggestions, advice, photo examples of what you have done pertaining to 1.9 Wraiths and shocks.

Here you could see where I grinded away some material to clear the shock, and also used a bigger spacer up top.

I use losi comp crawler shocks. Not gonna lower it much, unless your rig is heavy,10lbs+. Great articulation and smooth. I run 5mm spacers in the front and rear.

Poser flex shots can be found in my thread. has about the same ride height as my scx10 with 90 mm gmades running droop.

Here is mine on 103mm Gmade piggybacks. Happy with the stance.

How do you like the performance of those king shocks. I love the scale look of them.

I used a wider spacer on the upper mount and used a 30mm screw to move the shock outside of the shock/link mount tab. No clearance issues and seemed to help stability a bit.

My friggin head is spinning trying to figure out what to get. I want to buy new shocks, and at the same time lower the ride height a little. As far as I'm concerned the wraith sits a bit too high with 1.9s and stock length shocks.

At first I was thinking slash fronts. Then they seemed a little to small (98.5mm) and I'll lose some shock travel. So I next though I'll go with the slash rears. Then I notice they are longer (118mm)than the stock wraith shocks. That will defeat the purpose of what I'm trying to accomplish.

I next came across the Gmade piggybacks, 103mm. Seems like a perfect size that falls right in between the two slash shocks. Downside to them is although they have great reviews, everyone complains about leaks. And some say they are a pain to setup right. While I like to tinker with the truck, I rather drive it then chase down leaky seals and constantly tune shocks.

3rd option I thought of was the rc4wd King shocks. Harley says they are great for scale looks but not so much performance. Reviews are mixed, stating basically the same thing.

So...yea.

I haven't seen one shock that doesn't leak so I really don't think that should be a deciding factor. Some guys say use teflon tape on the threads and that seals tem up good but I haven't tried it myself.

do you still get a good amount of flex with the 90mm's? i've been thinking about throwing in a pair on my 1.9 wraith!

Any idea if the reservoir would interfere with the cage at all in the stock mounting holes?

Thats what I'm worried about with the Slash fronts. Losing too much travel. I may pull the trigger on the Gmade 103's. I've never built a shock before so I guess I need to learn somewhere.

Ok, so back to figuring out what shocks I could use. If you saw my other thread about the gmades you know that the 2 pack I bought came with a bunch of missing parts. Besides that....The reservoir up front was very close to the frame work. I would have to remove the shock to make adjustments and also run a decent size spacer to make clearance for the gearhead lowering kit. Now in the back the resevoir wouldn't clear the werty cage, and big bore shocks don't fit very well.

All in all, big bore shocks are just not going to work for me, Im fine with that. What options do as far as normal wraith size shocks? Should I just upgrade my stockers with axial alumium parts? ...Losi shocks?.... I considered the Kings but they are pretty pricey.

Any ideas would be helpful. My head has been spinning trying to figure out my next move.

I'm running Associated Factory Team 1.32" stroke on my Wraith. They bolted up without any mods and I gained a significant amount travel over the stock Axial shocks. It's not a 1.9" Wraith though, so articulation may be a little different on yours.

Right front and left rear tires are both sitting on a pair of mounted 2.2" Pro-Line Badlands. I can get three mounted Badlands under any single tire and still have about 1/2" of travel before the shocks bottom out and the tires don't hit the body or frame.

Proline Slash front shocks (about 100mm eye to eye non-compressed) or you could use Proline SCX shocks about 90mm or 95mm with the included longer lower shock ends.

100mms are the sweet spot for 1.9 wraiths...just choose your springs so they sag a little bit at ride hight

At 100mm eye-to-eye those would be Slash Rear, not front. Front are 88mm eye-to-eye (give or take 1-3mm for real world measurement) unless you've changed the shock shafts and/or rod ends.
