The supports coming down from the stinger are straight on the regular stinger. What purpose does it serve having them bent out? Light bucket clearance?

I'm guessing the bent ones are more rigid that straight?

bends in tubes and rod make them more rigid.

yeah not in that capacity it wouldnt. the bends are in line with the way the stinger would normally bend. its like half the work of bending that bumper is already done.

Blah blah, guys. Back to the subject. That bumper looks awesome. Regardless of it form>function or not, you got a sweet looking one-off stinger there!

I wouldn't exactly call it one off. I'm sure someone could take one off the shelf and put those bends into it. It's only aluminum. Just curious why he wanted it done that way.

| Re: BGR Custom Bumper First off, watch the name calling, second, I'm merely saying that you guys are going a lil bit off track. He has his reasoning for the design. It looks awesome. There's no need to nit-pick it. This is RC not physics, so chill out.

Yeah his reasoning is what we are trying to figure out. I can't imagine he just came up with oh lets bend the support bars for looks. Gotta be more to it...

We were not the slightest bit off topic. We were dead on topic, on subject, on track. However you choose to put it, we were on it (until you stepped in).

One thing the bent tubes do is give the bumper a little bit of flex on light frontal impacts. Those bent tubes will flex a little were as a straight tube will be more rigid in regards to those light impacts. It's not much flex, but it may have been their intention. Of course it could have just been an option mnickolson wanted with his bumper if it were custom built to his design/specs.

Eric0424 is almost dead on. I wanted more flex as a lot of the ones you see with straight braces are bent at the top and they also add some slide factor to it. I have seen some 1:1 bumpers which are designed like that also. Plus it looks cool lol. Last edited by mnickolson; 05-28-2015 at 06:27 AM. |

It looks real nice. The black looks great. I have the same bumper, but the standard style. I have beat it hard, doubt it will ever bend. Doesn't seem like you are losing any strength with your design. You got more room for lights too. The light I have wouldn't fit one mine, looks like it would fit with the bent supports. |
