I snapped a vp vvd today. Strongest front shafts is the super 300s. Not sure if there still being made, you will have to research it.

ive broken 3 vvds this summer. 1 shaft and 2 outputs. each time i was being very hard on the truck. outputs were the old version and split at the crosspin and the shaft broke off right at the locker. best bang for the buck by far are the axial unis. ive seen those break as well but i never broke one. only swapped them out for the vvds when the unis got sloppy and worn out. current buzz is the most recent runs of the wraith and xr10 unis arent as good as the old ones. for the price just get 2 sets and have spares. |

It's urban legend that SDS made the best universals for the wraith, I doubt you'll find any tho. I'd personally just run axial

I've broken a VVD on my TTC truck but have yet to actually break any Axial wraith universals. I do shave the ears down on the axials. I would say the axial uni's are strong as most, especially for the price difference.

I put as much thought into it as I could. Using a stock housing, there just was no way to get a stronger shaft, it needs to be bigger. The size limitations of the stock housing will always dictate the size of the shaft so you will have a weak shaft. For a stock housing, the stock universals work great, have great angle capabilities and are cheap. I also sell short and long sides separately to save some more money. If you want to fix the problem forever with not only unbreakable shafts but also a sick housing, bigger pinion bearings, 7075 axle tubes, great functioning truss, then you would look here: EighteenZero8 replacement axles |

Also, the new SSD axle could run bigger shafts as well.

Wow. Just wrote up a whole big reply and it didnt go through. Try this again. If its possible, I think it would be a great idea to use the new VP or SSD housing. I think just like the 1808's people might not understand or like the cost and effort that goes into them. Just speaking very ballpark: $110 VP modded housing $35 modded spool $45 modded R&P $45 hubs $100 Dlux knuckles $75 Dlux 8mm shafts $25 wheel hubs $40 truss $40 diff cover So, my guess would be between $500 and $550 for this setup? I dont know if I could get away with not sending it assembled. If I cant, the price would have to go up a touch, and then, for $150 or so more, wouldnt you rather have a Currie axle with better 7075 tubes and fully assembled? I think its a great idea and if anybody is down for that ballpark price, I would be more than happy to look into it. |

Sorry, I should have been more specific, i was talking about just making bigger and better axle shafts for vp v2 or SSD housing.

Well, so was I. LOL. $110 VP modded housing Must have this. $35 modded spool There really isnt much point in stronger shafts if your tang is the same size so, need this still. $45 modded R&P See above. The R&P only lets a 5mm shaft pass so this has to be modded. You also need a R&P in the first place. $45 hubs Must have these. $25 wheel hubs Must have these $40 diff cover Must have this $40 truss Must have this $100 Dlux knuckles $75 Dlux 8mm shafts So, really the last two are what you could compromise on. You could use Wraith knuckles. The bearings are horrible and it will limit the size of the shaft that you use but you could do it, I suppose. $75 is pretty cheap for a set of bulletproof shafts. You could figure something else out for sure but coming in under $75 will be tough. Bottom line, I dont think it would be cheap and you have to modify a lot of things. Unfortunately its not as easy as sliding in some bigger shafts. Thinking about other ways around it is how it all starts so keep it up! |
