Default Wraith Tekin FXR & 45t - overheating question

Fairly new kit. The stock 20t just gave out. I swapped in the tekin FXR and 45T I had on the shelf from the R1. After two batteries things started to get hot. Resetting a lot. I'm geared 12/56 32P. Am I way off?

This 45T is a bit too slow, so I may go back to a 20 or 30. Wish there was a 25t range. Where should I bee on that gearing? I read through the choose your motor and gearing sticky thread but still at a loss on my situation. Thanks in advance!

My guess, your gears are meshed too tight and you're destroying motors...soon the ESC. I'm not sure why you decided to use 32p gears but I would recommend you go back to the 48p gears and run a stock gear ratio 87/20 ish or as low as 87/15. If you're looking for speed, you're not going to find it with a brushed motor as the gear reduction inherent in the vehicle is a bit too high. YOu'll need a brushless motor/esc for that.

There is a company that sells motors in the 25 turn range and they are simply monster motors!!! Team Brood. I have used them exclusively in my rigs without a single failure or loss of power/torque.

Back to the issue at hand...back the pinion gear out of the spur gear so you have slop between them that you can feel with your fingers. As the gears rotate, the crest of the tooth needs room to rotate out of the trough of the other gear so it needs room. If there is not enough room to rotate out, it will make room and it will smash into the sides of the gear tooth causing drag and unnecessary heat. Hold your hands out in front of you, fingers spread, put your fingers together like gear mesh and rotate your hands up or down....your fingers will bind, smash and bend as they rotate...not back them away from one another and do it again...better?

Why would you recommend going back to 48p? 56/12 is a great starting point and I agree that the gear mesh is too tight or something else is dragging.

1. Easier to get a good gear mesh
2. More gearing options available
3. Price
4. 48p is smoother
5. 48p has more teeth engaged at any give moment
6. Personal preference
7. Quieter

But, since he already has it installed, no need to go back unless he wants a particular gear ratio that he cant attain with 32p

Look for binding in the drivetrain and double check your gear mesh. If those check out, try dropping to a 10 tooth pinion.

1. The procedure is the same regardless of gear pitch.
2. Yes.
3. My gears cost roughly the same whether 48p, 32p, MOD 1.0, etc..
4. That's in the quality of the gears and gear mesh. Quieter doesn't necessarily mean smoother.
5. Both have about two teeth engaged at any given moment. Any more than that and you have gear bind.
6. This is neither the time nor place to discuss your personal feelings.
7. Very few that care considering the added strength of 32 pitch.

32 pitch gears are stronger that 48 pitch in a given size and material. The main reason most switch to 32p when the 48 fail, some switch before the 48 fail.

definitely drop down to 10 tooth or get a different setup

Newest wraith spawn rtr comes with 32P gears. I was surprised to see that when I opened the cover. Gear mesh is good. I got myself a 10A BEC last night and a 35T RC 4WD motor. We'll see how that runs tonight.

Thanks for the input. Will get back when I have results.

The 32p gears is one of the upgrades on the Spawn along with the dual pad slipper and a few other upgrades over the Wraith kit and Wraith RtR versions.
