| 3/4 wraith
What do you do with an old, beat up Wraith cage, a set of used SCX axles and a bunch of odds and ends that are laying around? Build something of course! I had planned for a 1.9 Wraith, but after getting everything together, just didn't quite look right to me. After trying a few things out, I slapped on some smaller 2.2's and the "3/4 Wraith" was born. About 2" shorter WB and much narrower. Couple of pics to get caught up: Starting out: old busted cage, axles, some refresher parts for the axles and a new body Shortened the WB by almost 2 inches, and the front is now 3-linked. Converted the axles to Wild Boars and swapped in some new gears while I was in there. Added a CMS, and started experimenting with links. Prefer an on axle servo, but there was no room, so it had to be a 3-link and panhard. Took a little trial and error, but I got it all shoehorned in there. Arnold is pumped about his new ride! Links sorted, stripped and polished. Excellent travel and zero bump-steer...all fell together pretty nicely. Mostly assembled, Currently has a 55t motor stuffed in there, but have a 35t on hand. want to see how it does first. Managed to stuff all the electronics under the hood too. Kept it all in the family with some old AX10 Rock Lizards (Remember those?).....Actually, they looked the best of of the options I had on hand. Foams cut, and mounted on weighted 2.2's...3oz in front, 2oz in back. It's a bit tall and narrow with some not so grippy tires, so the weight down low should help a ton. Obligatory flex shot. Has more if pushed, but this is more than enough. Body has just been painted, and is drying as I type - More to come |

What wheels are you running with those Rock Lizards?

Kinda look like rpm wheels... I could never get Ahnold to sit right, broke him at the waist and shoe goo'ed him back together to sit properly. Always looks like he just saw the news break about his maid and son. Cool build, gotta love the scx axled wraiths. A tad shorter wheelbase and thinner track width always looked better to me. |

Revolvers for the win...Wide track versions. None of my beadlocks had enough offset to clear everything. Can't stand gluing tires anymore, forgot mow much of a pain that is. Not as painful with some 8 year old tires and $16 wheels though. Last edited by OSRC; 11-23-2013 at 09:33 PM. |

Paint's dry...looks pretty good, the gunmetal is backed with silver metallic, the basement lighting doesn't do it justice. Wishing I had spent a little more time on the stripes, they just look off now that everything's bolted up. Couple of pics compared to big brother: Hey! Knock it off, quit picking on your cousin! On to lighting...got 11 LED's to wire together. No kits, building these the old fashioned way. |

very nice! what size are the tires? I have a set of hammers that are 2.25x4.93 and need foams for them, I am not too familiar with foams and so far found the closest size to be 5.00 but not close on the width... these say they fit the hammers so I am going to try them out... http://www.crawlerinnovations.com/in...mart&Itemid=65 Last edited by allanon1965; 11-23-2013 at 09:45 PM. |

Yes, that's it. Only used the mount plates, rest got tossed in the pile-o-parts. Had to finagle it is a bit, couldn't quite mount it as they show on their site since the axle sits back further than stock.

Pretty much done. Swapped the 55t for a 35t, and wired in the lights. Added a swaybar in the front...not sure how it's going to work out. Front was dropping out a bit more than I like and was making the rig a bit unstable. Getting busy under there! |

Looks great...I like all the works you did on the front end. Nice and tidy for the amount of stuff up there, and the polishing really sets it off. I'm currently in the middle of building one of these myself.

I've got get on doing this soon. The more I look at my Wraith with it's stock axles and 2.2s the more it looks like a clown car. Axle shopping before Christmas though, might be a stretch...

Maiden voyage today. Ripped the swaybar off after about 30 seconds. Steering was a little weak, and going to mess with the front shocks a bit but all in all it performed awesome. Far better than my standard width Wraith. What I lost in stability I gained in nimbleness and breakover. Morning GTG at St. Peters Rock lizards did pretty well actually. Maybe they broke in with old age, I don't know. Foams cut and weights added, didn't really seem to be struggling with grip, even in the 40 degree temps. They packed up with mud easily on the soupy spots was my only beef. Did fine on the rocks. No plans to swap them out. No problem! Icy this morning! |
