Default My wraith & my Homemade wraith stinger bumper

Hey guys, I've finally decided to start my own build thread. So I'm doing my build off of my axial wraith spawn (kit). So I've been into rc for about 5 years now, but this is my first crawler. Putting this into perspective I'm still in high school so I don't have much money to throw at it. So I'm going to try my hardest to do everything as cheep as possible, or homemade.

With that out of the way here are some pictures.

I'll have better pictures once I get back home, but this is just what I got on my phone.

These are newer pics with my Homemade stinger bumper.

And lastly here are some pictures of the bumper, and my first attempts at a bumper...

My first try...

My 2nd more successfully try...

We'll that's my build, I'll have More Posts coming. Hope you guys like it.

Great work fella, though...... I'd say you'd be better off not having such a steep angle so it would help possibly slide up an obstacle ?

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll try heating it and hopefully I can bend it without melting the braze. But I really like the thought (:

Stinger bumpers are often built incorrectly... and utilized for the wrong application - purpose.

Generally they fair better for those traveling across ice/snow...
So if the wheels fall into a crevice or hole...
the stinger extends forward/rearward enough so as to span the crevice
and keep the rig from hopefully falling into that.

It's essence is to create a longer chassis (longer then the wheel base)
so it might save the rig if the ice underneath it collapses.

But it's never an assured thing... just an added measure.

Icelandic travelers commonly utilize a stinger type bumper design
more so then would a more common off road wheeling rig need.
Generally it will work less well for most entry and departure angles.

If the hoop is angled more vertically... it serves little real world purpose that I can see.
Might save yer radiator in a roll over...
But that's only if that hoop is strong enough to remain rigid during the roll-over.

Tho' I'll suppose some just like the look of it !?

Ok, I had no idea. Thank you, that really helpful info that's good to know! I had originally done it cause I liked the look and wanted something more unique, but that makes a lot of sense.
So taking that into account, I did bend the bumper farther forward a bit. I didn't do it much, but enough to where now it'll actually serve it's purpose. And maybe after testing it I'll tweak it again until I fine an angle that I like.

Also, I got some proline XL superswampers.

Great bumper work Sir....

Mine has a rear Stinger/tire carrier. This works really well at stopping the vehicle toppling backwards when attempting steep climbs. Now and again it can be a source of the odd hangup to though!

I like the angle you adjusted the bumper to.

Even tho' it's not my thing, looks better and displays it's intent/purpose.
tho' to be a true Icelandic wheeler, you'll need get even bigger tires !?

Good job at making it your own

Ya might think to reinforce those lower bends some using right angle rod(s) welded in, maybe a partial skid plate ?

'cuz ya can only re-straighten those rods so many times before they're toast !? Lol

No worries tho'... just cut it off, weld up something new, when becomes hammered to chit. Lol

Haha true true, I like that idea of a skid plate, less stuff to catch on while crawling...
Well I think ill test it tomorrow and take notes from that and see how it goes. Maybe more angle, or maybe a skid plate, who knows...
