Couldn't just sit around in the motel tonight.
Headed out with a charged battery, and a full tank of gas, on a mission.
Found some awesome rocks!
BUT, it was on the way back, after I had given up.
The sun had gone down.

No choice but to crawl by truck headlights.....lol
Angel halos all around, so I knew I would be safe in the West Virginia mountains.

One more reason to get my lights done.
Always something to do on this rig.

Wish I hadn't left my headlamp at home.
Getting too far from the mother ship.....lol

This area was huge.
Only about 25 minutes from my motel.
I hope to return with some daylight.

The evening dew was starting to set in making the leaves and rocks wet.

Wet tires+wet leaves+wet rocks equals lots of throttle, lots of bouncing, lots of crashing....hahaha
A real fun time, despite the limited visibility.

The outcropping was the top of a ridge.
The rocks extended as far as I could see in the low light.

Another killer line I'm calling 'Out of Darkness, and Into the Light'.
The name was born from this awesome experience.
It was quite literal, this evening; but sounds bad ass....lol.

Needed a low riding rig, or a Teflon roof rack to manage this sweet overhanging roof.

Size: 178.1 KB

After sliding under the roof, you hit a steep section.

It's steep and slick; but the roof that made the earlier part interesting actually keeps you from tipping back.
I bounced around in here for a bit, until something finally grabbed.

If it didn't spit you off the left side, you'd end up here, on top.
Took me 3 tries...lol

Still a bit of a climb just to make your exit.
Awesome line for sure.
Thanks for looking.

Went for another drive this evening.
Buffalo Lick Creek wasn't far from the hotel, so.....

I found an abandoned development, near the creek.
Parked the truck and followed a quad trail to this drop in...

Had my waterproof boots on, which was good.
This creek was like a jungle.
Walking the creek bed was the easiest path, for sure.

It got very narrow in places.
It's only as wide as my rig right here, and moving fast.

I hit some holes; but for the most part, it wasn't too deep where I explored.

Ended up at this twin tunnel.

This is what driving under I-81 looks like.....lol
There were a LOT of spider webs in here.
The other side had posted signs, so I turned around and made my way back to the truck.

Back on dry land, I needed to dry out.
One of the fastest ways to do that, is doughnuts.....of course.
Everybody knows that.

Unfortunately, the tires were too wet, and I hydroplaned out of control.
Thankfully, only my pride was damaged.

If I said this picture was taken in the New Mexico desert, it may fool some of y'all.
I'd believe it.

New gears came.
11t, 12t, and 14t pinions.
13t's are on backorder for some reason.
Got 3 spurs. One for Addy, one spare, and one for me.
My modified spur seems to be working.
I'm just gonna run it until it breaks, I suppose.
Good to have parts, though.

So I've been busy with other things lately and haven't updated much.
Did managed to get out to do some offroading today.

Addyson and I drove to a spot on the Appalachian Trail, not too far from where we live.

I'd never been to this section of the trail; but right away we started finding rocks to play on.

Turns out, the whole trail is littered with awesome rocks.
We only found a couple of short sections where you could open up the throttle.

Both rigs ran strong today.
No breakdowns, traveling about 3 miles total.

A keen eye into the surrounding woods found even more rocks to explore.
The whole ridge line is just covered with boulders that have never been crawled.....yet...

My daughter's driving abilities have grown leaps and bounds since she first got her Wraith.
I'm very glad I chose this vehicle for us to enjoy together.
It's very capable, takes a beating, and looks good doing it!

I may never be on this section of trail again; but if I am, it's worth the trip.

That looks like it could have been taken in Wawayanda State Park right by me. I've taken walks there before with the wraith and dog. Used to get 2+ hours out of a 5000mah pack with the 35T. Somehow I don't think I'll get the same runtime out of the castle brushless.

Northern Jersey?
Don't know much about our shared geology; but it could make sense. We're not too far apart. Might be the same type of rock we've got here.

I never changed the 5200mah battery in my rig that day. Meter said it was about dead after 2+ hours on a 21T.

My daughter, on the other hand, needed a battery change about 20 minutes before we got back to the truck.
She's a bit more liberal with the throttle.......lol

When in doubt, throttle out. It may not improve the situation but it will end the suspense.

York is down a bit lower than me but since the application trail goes through there it's likely very similar geology. I have the "stairway to heaven" section of the AT right by me. My whole backyard has the same rocks as well. Nice to be able to walk out and go play though the woman can get less than pleased when I landscape with more of an eye towards crawling than actually making it pretty.

Thank you.
I've been away from this rig for a while; but it's still a project that's on the bench...not on a shelf.
Addy and I were out on some dirt piles yesterday.
Even made a new friend, lol

I just read this whole thread. Great job on all the fabrication and modifications. Your rig is looking great, and you seem to be really enjoying it.

Question - How do you take pictures while you drive?
