| Newbie needs some help
First off there really should be a trouble shooting thread. Second i have tried searching but found nothing I have a wraith spawn about two weeks old. Only upgrades are a 2s lipo, steering linkage and suspension linkage. My problem, out running it on a full battery, doing some hill climbing and bashing around. Right before the problems I did flip and the hood bashed on a rock pretty good. I noticed it wasn't turning to the left very well (is aligned and was steering perfect 2 min before) So I picked it to inspect and the servo was buzzing away, started to mess eith the trim on the controller then all of a sudden it lurched back and forth on its own, quit steering then would not accept anything from the controller, no throttle and no steering. I did notice that the led on the esc was blinking in a pattern of 4 or 5 times. Like I said complete rc newbie here, give a motorcycle, 4 wheeler, rzr or even a real jeep and I'll diagnose the shit out of it. Am I looking at an esc problem or a receiver problem Thanks Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |

Hey look here and start looking at the colors and pattern https://rogershobbycenter.com/castle...shootingguide/ You might have a rx/Tx/esc calibration issue , but I suspect a broken servo gear ( stock tactic ?) Hang up and Drive |

So been doing some diagnosis. I have open up receiver box and unplugged the way and the servo. If I just plug in the esc I have throttle, but as soon as i start to plug in the servo, the esc and the receiver leds blink really fast and I loose my throttle control. If I just plug in the servo I still have no steering. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |

Plug throttle into steering on the receiver, wheel makes the motor run. (Indicating controller, receiver and esc are good. Plug servo into steering on receiver, no steering. Plugs servo into throttle on reliever, hit throttle, nothing. Bad servo Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk | |

I'm leaning towards bad servo. When you upgrade the super floppy steering links to something more solid the servo takes the shock that normally would be adsorbed. It didn't take long for my stock servo to go tits up after adding hard links and servo arm. I already had a hitec 7955TG on the bench waiting. Spend the money on a good metal gear servo. If you don't it is highly likely you'll end up buying more than one or replacing geartrains. I have the 7955TG in both my SCX10 and the wraith. You can install a servo saver but it will impair the steering. I do like the new Proline link they make that floats with springs on either side. Well I did up until I saw the price. Fifty dollars for 2 springs, a screw, a sliding mount and a link is a bit much. I've been meaning to DIY one but haven't got around to it yet. |

Good specs on that 7955TG. With running the new ae-5 would i need to run a bec? Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |

Before my AE-5 released it's blue smoke and stopped working I was running a castle BEC. Now with the MambaX it's not needed. I have read that hitec underrated the voltage you can pump into it so it will handle higher voltage but personally, I don't go that crazy and run it just a bit above it's 6v top rating.

So if I understand you right. If I keep the ae-5 ill need a bec, but if I upgrade to Mamba package i won't need a bec and I can get a higher tourqe servo Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |

Yes. I believe the mambaX BEC is 8A peak where the stand alone is 10A. The 8A should be enough for any beefy servo.

Is there a bigger servo i can put in without updating esc. Budget builder here, be a few months before I could afford the mamba package Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |

I doubt you will have issues running that servo with the stock ESC. I didn't make it clear that the AE-5 didn't blow because of the servo. I didn't maintain the brushed motor and that's what cooked it. The castle external BEC is pretty inexpensive but you have to have the ability to solder. I'm sure if you buy the servo and the BEC from the Local Hobby Store they can solder it up for you for a small charge at the most. I know LHS's are getting hard to find now. I do my best to spend some money at the local place, keeping them open is important. They'll keep you running over the weekend when something breaks. Mine will price match Tower hobbies prices but on the lower priced stuff I don't even bother. You can also check the electronics section here for other servo recommendations. I know Savox are quite good, I run one in my RC10, and tend to be a little less money. Get something with at least a metal geartrain. You can lunch a plastic one before your first pack is done. |

Yup, you got a dead servo that's overloading your ESC's BEC. I run a 7955TG in my Wraith off the Hobbywing WP 1080's internal BEC (rated at 3A, set to 6V). Works great, and the servo seems durable enough - and I break something in the steering or linkage area almost every time I take it out. I even managed to knock the sticker off the servo |
