That's normal. Think it's the cyntered gears. I just went easy on it for the first couple packs. It's smoother now.

If your motors are installed, yes, put the rums on and try like they said. If motors aren't installed, no it shouldn't be hard to turn.

Yah upgrade the bearings To Avid's or VP's bushing while your at this stage. Don't even bother with the factory bearings

Me and my buddy built xr10 at same time took our time did it right and all my axles turned free but one of his was very hard to turn even with wheels and tires on it so he tore his apart and found one of the bearings had come out of its housing and was laying against the gear he put it back in made sure it stayed now his turns freely.

So- i will check and see if i have a "mod" going on. I did notice it was much easier before i greased them to turn. But I'm going to open the damn thing again and see

I've cracked mine 4-5 times now each, it's 2nd nature and easy once you get used to it. I still have yet to have any failures either. Then again I installed Avid bearings from step 1, the stock bearings never even saw my case

I was changing a pinion last night and saw peices so I opened it up and 2 of the flanged bearing were in peices. So i installed the bronze bushings and its a little louder now. I have avids in the back and they seem to be doing fine.

so is the concencus that opening them and sealing them a couple dozen times over the life of the axels is acceptable considering all this tightening ? I have two SCX10s... i have taken the axels apart probably a dozen times and i don't see any issues with the seals becoming worn or tired...welll not seal but you guys know, the threaeded holes and the tounge and groove...(hehehe tounge and groove )
so yea, i guess i sound like a Nancy but you guys dfont think this is an issue? I bought an extra set at the LHS... they were 20.00 for the pair, seemed like it was worth it.

thanks
paul

The opening the axles yes. I took apart my bergs constantly. Whether or not the plastic will hold up to all this is a whole other story

i finally got a wheel mounted to the front axel. when i slowly spin the axel, i feel a rough spot 3 times in a complete rotation. I HAVE NOT gotten the time to take her apart yet, since i still feel this roughness i am going to crack it tonight...

did you guys notice any roughness? or like a bur as you spin the wheel freely? i do not have a motor mounted. the axel is complete and its greased. Maybe a bur on a gear or the casing?

(i will record this with photographic accuracy for you all to see if there is an issue)

you guys all reccomend replacing the stock bearing right? avid as the brand? anything better?

did any of you use some graphite lube on the steering rod? it also seems to stick just a tiny tiny tiny bit.... nothing major but i want my 7980 to last as long as it can. i may lightly polish the guide for the steering rod..or whatever the hell that is called.

thanks as always dudes...

Absolutely tear apart your axles. Somethings not right.

ok, opened this back up the grinding went away when i put her back together but i couldnt find any reason why it was rough in patches.

i took picks, i will post them tonight, they are at my house system...no rdp into my home network i would have them now...

anyways, the front axel, the first gear - the arrow points outward, as the instructions call for right? this is the correct position? so the first gear in, the arrow is pointing inward. then, the outer gear, the arrow is facing inward....just like the instructions state. i will post images at lunch, ill run home.

one more thing guys. has anyone found that one of 3x15mm self tapping screws looks more like 3x16mm? i noticed this last night, during the tear down, that one screw looked jsut a skaoch longer.... i measured and it looked more like 16mm. anyone else see this?

thanks as always dudes
