| Just build my xr10 - First run, front axle "clicks"?
Just finished building by xr10. I have been watching these forums for about a month... I spent 2 full days to build this crawler so I would not be rushed, and make a bonehead mistake like other have on the axles. About 2 minutes into my first run, i quickly noticed a clicking in my front axle when it is under a moderate load. Other than that, the axle runs and sounds perfect. Did one of my gears break? I checked all of the screws on the transmission, they all are snug. Anything I need to check before I tear this thing open? This is not normal, right? |

That is not normal. I'd tear into it. If it is a break, you can save yourself the trouble of letting a lil broken piece of gear break all your other gears. Take pictures. E-mail Axial. Worst case scenario. Best case, you take it apart, find nothing, put it back and it goes away. |

I would tear down the axle and check the bearings in the gear housing. It sounds like one of the 5x8 flanged bearings came apart. If it did make sure you clean the gears and housing up really good to insure that all the little ball bearings have been removed and also make sure there are no bearings stuck in the teeth of the gears.

If your using cheap motors, they will sometime make a click sound, this is mistaken for axle sounds...You running Integy Machine wound motors? They do it the worst... |

I will take it apart, I just need to clean up my work area first haha. EDIT: I forgot to ask. How tight are you guys tightening these screws in the gear housings? Last edited by eddiepfund; 10-05-2010 at 04:11 PM. | |

There was some posts about this in another thread. Other people including myself had the same clicking in the front only, which turned out to be the way you might have your motor pinion set against the gear. All I did was loosen up the motor screws and readjusted a tiny bit. Then the clicking in the front went away. Try that and its always good to do a teardown to check stuff out.

| Opened the axle, no gears were stripped or broken. I think the problem was the 4 screws around the final gear were either A.) not tight enough or B.) not evenly tight. I buttoned up everything tightly, more so than before, and I will be going to check it out in a few minutes.
