| XR10 Left front wheel wobble question
Hope i posted this in the right section.. Front drivers side wheel wobble, especially noticable in left turn Dig mode(of course)..Is this normal? Its not a huge problem but being abit of a neurotic perfectionist it kinda bothers me - There is nothing visibly wrong and nothing is worn out -Servo and servo horn are nice and snug.Linkage is nice and tight. Here is what i have done to try and get rid of it..... -Swapped front wheels/tires left to right.Still wobbles -Swapped drive shafts ..Wobble still there No play in bearings and the bearings are nice and snug in the knuckles. -Tried another new Knuckle..Wobble still there Is it the slop in steering linkage?.I Have tried both stock and a solid link Is it the stock plastic knuckles? Any ideas or is this just the way it is?.Thanks for your time Last edited by xv-townboy; 12-19-2010 at 06:36 PM. |

Could be the wheel hex. It may not be machined right. Other possibility is the outer axle or stub shaft. not sure if Xr10's are cvds or dogbones. My bet though would be the hex or pin it sits on being bent or the hex having some machining issue and not sitting on the rig perfectly strait. Seems you have tried everything else. if it only wobbles when the wheels are turned, then it could be binding in the axles shaft/cvd. If it is binding then it will cause that. If it is doing this, it would not really show up unless the wheels were turned and the shaft has to be able to pivot without binding and causing the wobble. |

did you turn the steering to full lock by hand with rig turned off to see if you can feel any slop anywhere? i turn it to full lock then try and move the tires more to see what is giving

I do have a solid steering rod..Could it be that the reason it doesnt happen on the passenger side is because the servo takes up any play in the steering link?!.So any slop or play will be amplified on the drivers (non servo) side of the rig..I have done everything else suggested inlcluding what i already mentioned.. Once again its not a big deal, just didnt seem normal to me. I am into RC Helcopters for many years and i'm usually pretty good at tracking down odd vibrations and such, but being fairy new to Crawlers this has me a little baffled..I'll keep working on it. I appreciate all the replies..Thanks Last edited by xv-townboy; 12-22-2010 at 11:34 PM.

it could be. i know when im at full lock which is right around 48-50 degrees of steering my wheels will wobble. but only after 40-45 degrees of steering do i really notice it. yea it could be just the way your linkage is

I have noticed that if the end points are not dialed down the u-joint will bind a little causing a wobble. At full lock you are putting alot of stress on the u-joints, so dial them down as I did. It saves the axle shaft, and turning tighter is only a dig switch away. |

Or when someone starts a new thread with the same question we will have to direct them to the search bar. Do let us know if you got the problem figured out. I am looking at other possibilities that could cause the problem, but I believe that is it. |

I had the same problem with my XR-10. I removed the weights inside the wheels and the wooble is gone. The problem was caused by the foams and the kit weights.

Another thought. Make sure you don't have axel/CVD play. This can be corrected by putting this shims between the axel housing and the axel pin, if their is room. A typical washer is too thick, so make sure you get shims. Good luck!

One thing to think about is that over time. All the hard binds, sharp turn, and front wheels wedged in between rocks will put some slop in the pins. Too bad they dont make a rebuild kit with new pins. I have a small watch pin press that I think could push the pins out for repair.

To some extent it's a BTA thing for the inside wheel to wobble as the knuckle arm and steering link go straight with each other at full lock, AX's were real bad about this.

To some degree i think it is normal.Being new i wasnt sure, hence my question If all else looks good, check to be sure that your steering link is slop free.As stated earlier, the slop (if any) is exagerated on the drivers side.At least that's what i have narrowed it down too..Lots of good info here for sure Last edited by xv-townboy; 12-24-2010 at 02:21 PM. |
