| Would this setup work?
First off, I am a complete beginner when it comes to this stuff. I'm in the process of piecing together a XR10 before I start buying. I've spend the last few hours searching around this site trying to educate myself. I'm starting from scratch, so I need everything. This will be a fairly basic crawler with separate front and rear motor control (obviously 3ch). I'm getting the bare bones kit to start. Then I'm adding: Pro-Line G8 Chisels 2.2 tires link 2x 45t integy motors link dx3e tx, rx, & servo link 2000-3000 mah 3s Turnigy battery example link I'm completely lost on ESC's though. I'm thinking there isn't an esc that will allow me to have individual control of each motor, correct? What is a good entry level ESC that will work well with this setup? Besides a lipo battery charger, am I missing anything else? Obviously I will be changing out things later (battery mount, servo mount, etc), this will just be getting me started. Thanks for your help! |

I would buy Rovers, or Sedonas for tires. Rovers are CHEAP! your motors are fine, hand wounds are smoother, and 35t would be faster, but those are fine. I cannot suggest that radio. if you can wait a month or 2, get the 3Rc, wich will allow you to use and mix 2 esc. to my knowledge, the 3e will only give you dig w/ a punk or wantasummit switch. a 2000-3000mah battery really wont fit conveniently in a XR10. 800-1100 mah is more what i would suggest. ESC's boil down to how much skrilla you can let go, and the radio you buy's capabilities. |

Can anyone verify that the 3e will or won't do what I need? I'll get a battery in that range. As for the ESC, I'm trying to do this build on the cheap, so what is a lower range of ESC that will work for me?

well, look @ it this way. if you buy a 3e and want to have both front and rear dig, you will need 1 esc, and 1 punk switch. (the switches are what control the diggin) so that $100 radio, $80-$100 esc, and $80 switch. If you get a 4pl or a 3c $125-$205, you will only need 2 esc's @ $80-$100 per. here, its the channel mixing w/ the radio that gives you dig AND proportional throttle control. as far as esc's go, my budget friendly suggestion would be to spend the $20 and get a member star. then pick up a fellow members old ESC, for a good deal from the for sale section. id suggest a CC sidewinder, Mamba max, MM Pro, HH Torquemaster, or an FXR, or 2 of each. |

If you want to run the 3E with a punkdig and a CC SV2 it will work. The only thing to think about is the new controller fron spectrum comes out in may and is 30bucks more then the 3E has many more features and you can get another esc for the same or less then the punkdig. Just some food for thought.

I have a Novak M2 Dig esc set up with a dx3e and it works with front and rear dig fine, but no proportional control with this radio. I plan to sell these items shortly, if your interested drop me a PM, hopefully this is not frowned upon by the mods w/ a non paying member.....

| The 3C is the new one thats coming out. Its got 20model memory, lcd sceen, and a bunch more features. The 3E is good. I had the 3E for my XR in the beginning, but have a 4pl now.

I dont like anything out of the futaba and spectrum area of radios. Most of the other radios out there are junk, imo. If you can hold out for a bit, a=wait on the 3C it will be worth the wait for sure.

| Just to double check, the 3c will allow control of both motors together, as well as just the front or just the rear, without having to use a DIG, Correct?

From what i have read and watched a couple videos. The new DX3C will allow front and rear dig. As well as say 80% power to front motor and 20% to rear. With dual ESC/motor setups.

Yes, all you'd have is two esc's and a reciever.

Digging, is locking an axle, independently of the other. your saying that you just dont want a "switch," rather you are seeking independent control of 2 esc's and motors, via mixing through a radio..

I'm guessing that an ax10 esc won't work with this setup?
