| Rear axle bracket Ok, I'm tired of searching for the answer. Is the rear axle bracket necessary? I don't have any intentions of putting anything on the rear axle, so I'm either going to take it off, or make a smaller one. I am afraid eliminating it completely might be asking for trouble. Does it provide support for the axle? Chime in please and let me know if you have removed it and what you have experienced. Please don't trash me for not searching, I have off and on for three days. I will trash you back! |

I removed it from many months now, when I have the rear case, and nothing bend... and now I made "front case mod" w/o any plate and w/o bending... |

I'm not a XR expert by any means, but I believe the bracket adds strength to the rear axle, I've notice many XR owners cut them down but not completely eliminate them altogether.

With stock plastic cases it is required to add strength. This was determined and stated by axial when the gear breakage started happening at release.

I heard that it helps keep the rear axle together so I just made a new one but I have no personal experience. I've been a Berg guy for years and just built up my first XR, didn't even run it with the stock bracket. I just drilled the same 3 holes in a piece of aluminum and cut it as small as possible. Here's the only picture I have of it at the moment, I painted it black but you can kind of see it on the rear axle. http://www.rcsparks.com/wp-content/u...8/BirdView.jpg |

Here's mine, i just modified the plate, took about 5 seconds with a pair of side cutters, it needs a little cleaning up the corners and stuff, and maybe repainted but it works... |

Thank's to RockDrifter here's the definitive info UPDATE! 9-17-10: Please be sure to always install AX30559 XR10 Rear axle plate. It plays a crucial part of the strength of the rear axle. The screws holding this plate on are the main clamping bearings on the 5×8 bearing on the end of the AX30196 5×58 Gear Shaft. You must run this plate and the correct screws. Instant gear failure will occur without this plate installed. |

It should just read: "Instant gear failure will occur" then: "Upgrade gears will pop" |

If you are too lazy to make a new one, BWD makes a smaller, thicker one. It's cut, instead of stamped aluminum. $10 though But for the time it'd take to get the material, design one, cut it, and install it, the $10 seems like a deal. |

| It'll come out when the XR's stop dominating the 2.2 class and need something to "catch up" |

I have never run that bracket on my XR. I run RC4WD gears with Avid bearings and have never had them skip. As long as you use the right length screws you dont need it.
