Default Project uber cheap and effective XR*Gone high dolla and anorexic*

Now that my Berg is about where I want it to be, I am bored, and want to build something new. After reading a few build threads, I want to build an XR in fairly stockish form, to encourage people that an XR can be somewhat strong, and drive well.

Some mods will include the brass inserts that 4xFord used. Grovers cheap 0 ackerman knuckles, 9mm bearing mod to the plates, traxxas bushings, and a little magic I have to keep the front of the transmission from deflecting.

I would like to First thank Scott Cook, Mason Scot, and Jon Boarwright for the donations of their stock leftovers. I just had to get some other odd ball parts to get the rest put together.

Everything I have so far, I either had given to me as leftovers from a build, bartered stuff for, had the parts laying around, or spent very little on. So far, I am into this project 35 bucks, and she should be a roller with only that. Until I can gather electronics, I will just pop the ones out of my berg to test with. I kind of have a goal to be into it no more than a hundred bucks out of pocket. Trading off crap that I don't need will probably come in handy, in making that happen.

Kind of pointless to post up before I have started anything, but I am too excited to refrain lulz. Pics and build fun to come soon...

Ya this should be sweet. Stock AE2 and radio? Lots in the fs section. Maybe they'll trade stuff.

So I got my order from mcmaster today, and decided to do something productive while lunch was nuking. Ordered a 9mm drill bit for the bearing mod, and the brass inserts for the upper housing halves. Since I had to get new housings, I opted to go with 2 fronts to save weight. More to come as time permits...

Drilled to 5/32

Inserts installed

Put screws in them, so that the CA glue doesn't dry with them pinched at the end.

I do the same with the screws but back them out immediately just in case glue got on them. That would suck if they got glued into the insert.

Yeah, we will see. I am building it in a specific way, with weaker motors, and maybe even 3S. That way, it is build more like the average Joe. So then I can see if she holds.

I didn't bother CA gluing my inserts in, no need. You should do the one in the transmission too.

Good idea. Did that, and more. Put some in the upper link mounts, and the servo mounts, since I have so many extra.

There is something about excessive that I just love. But you better have got one in the bottom of the servo post. Ha

Thanks. Getting almost all of the rest of the parts tonight. All I am waiting on are the bearings for the lockers. So once I have the 5x9 bearings for the motor plate, I am going to do that mod, and get the tran cases put together for now.

I did the one on the motor case before I got my VPs. Careful on tightening it, I pulled the insert down into the axel.
