| Spawn of Violator's XR-10 build
After winning the XR-10 at Nationals in Vegas I decided it was time to put it together. My daughter has wanted a crawler since I built her a really cool 1.9 but then took it because I wanted to run a 1.9. Now she will have her very own "comp" crawler. This build is going to be a budget build. I have some 55t lathe motors so thats what she is going to get. I have a sidewinder esc, and a Tekin R1pro esc laying around. I am thinking about either a pair of Micro sidewinders, or another full size sidewinder. I also considered a single r1pro and no dig. Make it a sportsman rig only, but I hate to waste the capabilities of the Futaba 4pl. Hopefully I can find something cheap. Even though she is only 7, I want it to work well. After considering stock chassis vs. aftermarket I am leaning towards a ROC........Just kidding. I know a guy who knows a guy who is going to donate a White BJ4 to this build ( and yes thats a hint, have one ready for me and put it on my tab). I opened the box and went through all the parts. There is way to much stuff. I started with the Axial XR-10 kit, RC4WD Bearing adapters, and hardened gears . First off, my spawn. Next all the parts layed out in the 007 Krawl lab. Pay no attention to the instruction book, I am a man, and men only use instruction booklets as coasters. And lastly the best radio I have never bought (thanks again to TEDROCKZ for the great give away). Futaba 4pl. After doing lots of thinking, lots of cussing, and I mean lots of cussing (Krawl said he wished he has set up a camera to film the build) I got one axle done. Now all I need is to win some VP stuff, but for now its gonna be stock unless I hit the lottery, or cheap out and buy some Hot Racing stuff ( on a side note, how is the hot racing stuff? I know its not VP, but its cheapy and that works pretty good for me) More pics to follow. Last edited by The Violator; 10-06-2011 at 10:59 PM. |

You should rename this "Stuff I Have Won Build". A 4PL and an XR10 kit? You lucky guy!

Good luck with the build and have fun. I'm sure your daughter will love it. The kit is actually pretty nice to assemble... oh wait... I think I only used about 6 kit pieces to build mine.... Nevermind. |

I got the second axle together today. The only issue I see is that without the VP parts this thing seems like it might be a little flexy. I am not sure it will handle my 7 year old beating on it. I am going to continue, but I might just get her a rtr wraith and let her have at it. I can see peoples frustration in putting this thing together. 4 different screws in one area. Trying to get it repaired in between courses on the side of a rock would not be something I would want to try. |

Ya it is a headache with all the different screws used per axle. I carry my manual around with me just incase I need to rebuild the axle. Definitely a downside to the axles in my opinion. | |

I don't know about the HR stuff but you should consider the RC4WD cases. You get the motorplate and the outer case for around $35 an axle. I got my XR used with the cases and they have been holding up great and i beat the living crap out of it.
